I've been interested in getting a Wi-Fi hotspot for quite some time, but the question was which one, and on which carrier? I was originally thinking about Sprint or Virgin Mobile, but they don't have the greatest coverage in the world, and lets face it, Sprint's network sucks. I ruled out T-Mobile immediately since I already have a smartphone with tethering from them. So that left Verizon and AT&T. I have to admit I was tempted by Verizon and their large LTE footprint, but the fact is with them it's either LTE or 3g, and there are still lots of markets with no LTE coverage. I decided to go with AT&T. They have an expanding LTE network, but in the meantime they have a large HSPA+ 4g coverage that Verizon can't currently match. So with AT&T I get the almost universal immediate use of the HSPA+ 4g, LTE in some markets, and things will only get better as their LTE coverage expands.

As for the device itself, I have yet to find a spot with no 4g coverage. Speeds are fast (I've seen as high as 12 mbps on HPSA+, and as high as 23 on LTE), coverage is good, and the device seems to be reliable and easy to use. My only minor complaint is what others have mentioned, the battery life could be better. That's not really a big issue though, I always carry a power brick when I know I'll be using my devices outside the home for a while, so whenever I'm not walking around I just plug it in and charge it up. Also I suppose upload speeds could be a little better on HSPA+, but that's nitpicking. I won't be running servers off of it so the upload speeds are good enough for the most part.

Overall I'm very pleased with the device, and would definitely recomend it after two weeks of heavy usage while vacationing down at the beach.

If you are in an area that does not have broad band and have good AT&T service this is for you. I am able to stream video and play xbox with very little issues. Ping in my area is around 120 and I only get 3G in my area. Not the greatest but it gets the job done. I leave it on all the time and have not seen any issues so far. I even bought a used one.

Buy this but do not put it on the AT&T plan 5Gig $50/ month plan instead get a sim card from Straight Talk. You get unlimited data for $45/ month. The unlimited is much needed if you are gaming as much as I am. It is hard to get the system and the sim to work correctly and multiple calls to ST's customer service were needed. I was even told it would not work a couple times. Just stick with it. (Hint: change the APN)

Despite the bad reviews I read about this product, I can tell it's actually a good one.

With the latest firmare it works very well. The iOS App. works great and give good informations.
It heats up a bit when in use. Better to put it outside but out of sun view.

Battery life is ok, but 2 batteries are needed for an intensive usage of 12 hours.

Just be carreful from the seller you buy this from. Some comes in the original AT&T box. Some are from China with different packaging and wall charger but seems to be same product.

Great Mobile Internet Option

I ordered this "mobile hotspot" because I needed on-the-go internet service. I took this "unlocked" device into AT&T and they set me up with service, no hassle. It works great! I even canceled my home internet service and I just use my mobile hot spot at home and where ever I go! It's small (about the size of my cell phone) and light weight. The battery only lasts a couple hours so I'm always sure to have a plug-in and car charger with me. The only problem I have had so far was when I was in a building with a metal roof. I couldn't get a signal there, but other people couldn't get signals on their cell phones either...so I guess there will always bee some cases where it doesn't work. Overall, I'm very happy with this device.

Needed this to get 4G and not LTE

I ordered this because it has the option to manually select the network you want (LTE/4G/3G/1x, etc.) I purchased the latest and greatest Liberate mobile hot-spot from AT&T when we added a data plan. However, our house is on the fringe of AT&T's LTE and 4G networks. The Liberate automatically finds the best signal and connects to it. Unfortunately, it would find the LTE for a minute but then drop and not provide any service. This device allows me to log into it and lock it on 4G and not LTE, which then allows it to hold the signal at my house.

It's not as fancy as the Liberate with it's touch screen but sometimes you have to go with function over fashion. :)

Battery with this Hotspot was no-good!!!

Never got to use it. The battery that came with this hotspot was so distorted, (it just looked all swollen up), that it would not allow me to put the cover on the hotspot with the battery inserted. So, I couldn't charge the battery up to even try out this hotspot. I just returned it back to Amazon for a refund immediately. I would like to say that the return process with Amazon went very well. It didn't work from the time it arrived! It searches for the network, finds it then says it cant connect error (33) . My network says I needed to have it unlocked. I got it unlocked. It searches, finds the network, then searches again. it a vicious cycle, and it never stays long enough to do anything. Major glitch in the unit.
