The guy is an entertainer and extreme sports guy. He is by and far more daring than I'll ever be but hey that makes good tv in my book. He knows what he is doing and yes there was that whole kerfluffle with the "he stays in nice hotel rooms not in the woods like the acts like" but frankly he never came out and said he was just strictly in the woods 24/7 when he is filming. And yeah he has a crew and all that jazz but the content of the program is still enjoyable and there are tricks that everyone who goes outside can glean from him, even if it doesn't involve doing all the insane stunts that could easily see a sprained ankle or torn knee ligament. So yeah don't try it at home but that's a fine place to tune in.

Far less survival shows on than there used to be, this was one of the best, the crap he digested and the extreme ways he showed how you can survive he is/was 2nd to none. Come back Bear, you're missed and cheers for the many episodes of entertainment!

I really enjoyed this episode. Jake Gyllenhaal impressed me with his athleticism and sense of humor. He seemed the perfect match for a survival adventure with Bear.

First let me say if I could have given Bear a minus 5 rating, I would have; what a boob. What he does in supposed 'survival' situations would be laughable if there weren't people who thought he knew what he was doing. He does not. Let me repeat that: Do NOT follow this man's mode of survival. When I first saw him running down mountains, jumping with bravado from rock to rock I was shocked beyond words. If you are alone in the mountains and you act with cavalier abandon, you're going to inflict a mechanical injury to an ankle or knee and then you probably won't make it out. This foolish approach is also using precious calories and forcing your body to use its stores of water faster, making you more likely to suffer from hypothermia. I watched this fool swim across a lake that could easily been walked around, 'crawl' over another lake that wasn't solidly iced over, and 'float' himself down a river filled with frigid mountain runoff!! All absolute "Do Not Do's" if you are lost, and alone in a survival situation. Following this 'advice' will probably speed you along to a premature death due to drowning or hypothermia. If you want sound survival advice I suggest you watch #1: Dual Survival, #2 Survivorman in that order. Then you need to read, take classes, and practice, practice, practice so when and if you need to survive you will be prepared both physically and mentally.

It's amazing to see just how much the human body can survive off of when you have no other choice but to survive. Makes you think about personal limitations in a life or death situation
