DEWALT-designed electronics have been built into the DCD780B’s switch to provide maximum life for the tool and battery by helping to protect them from overheating, overloading, and deep discharge during use. The 20-volt max platform provides up to 35 percent more runtime than existing 18-volt lithium-ion battery technology. The drill’s high-power, high-efficiency motor delivers 350 unit watts out of maximum power for superior performance in light and medium drilling applications. A 1/2-inch ratcheting chuck with carbide inserts provides superior bit-gripping strength—reducing slippage during high-torque applications—thus providing longer tool life. The drill/driver’s two-speed (0-600 RPM and 0-2,000 RPM) transmission allows users to select the appropriate speed for the job at hand and is up to 30 percent faster than current drill/drivers on the market.

Comfort and Convenience

The compact drill’s design incorporates a slim handle with contoured grip that extends user comfort during long jobs, and DEWALT’s engineering and design team adjusted the product footprint and weight allocation for ideal balance and a lightweight feel, making the 3.4-pound tool easy to maneuver in tight areas. Its 7.5-inch length is half an inch shorter than other currently available drill/drivers. The bright built-in LED work light above the trigger has a 20-second delay that improves visibility in dimly lit spaces.

I got this for my husband. He needed a drill that had higher torque and lasted longer. I read through a LOT of info on various drills (including reviews) and through many batteries for those drills. This was the lightest drill that had the best torque. Another reviewer stated that he used ti commercially and remarked how well it did and how light it was. It got me thinking that holding a heavy drill through a tough job would probably fatigue the hand/wrist fast and through his time in the military and all his time working outdoors, the last thing my husband would want is more hand/wrist pains. So, I went with this drill. I also liked how easily the battery was said to go into it and is as easily removed.
It's light weight, the torque is perfect the battery lasts a long time and charges up fast :)

I bought it with the DEWALT DCB201 1.5-Ah 20-Volt Lithium-Ion Compact Battery. This is being used commercially (he works on planes) and so far he's thrilled... and everyone is asking to borrow it lol.

This drill is a replacement for one I had originally purchased a couple of years ago. It is not a drill that I use every day. In fact it had not been used for several months now. When I needed it, the drill "chuck" was jammed in the open position and no matter what we tried, we were unable to move it into the "lock" position. Drill motor still worked fine just unable to mount any drills. Repair costs were more than the cost of a replacement drill, so I purchased a new one. Love Dewalt products, but they are not as bullet proof or dependable as they advertise.

I used this with a deck. It worked well with most everything using the torque settings for nimble tasks, then opening it up for tougher tasks. I was planting 5 inch long 3/8 lag bolts into solid wood up to the last inch. The drill has torque enough to twist your arm so hold on with both hands.
The high and low speeds work well for torque tasks, but also for high speed drilling. I was using self tapping screws and it worked well doing that. I owned a 777 model and had to send that back to the shop and this was one stepped up to the task.

Towards the end I may have pushed the torque too much and injured one of the 3 steel tines that grabs your bit causing a slight wobble. I did not notice the wobble with my last work task. I gave the tool a 4 due to the gripping tine slipping or possible breaking, but I did push this tool hard.
As of now, it's well worth the money and love the ergonomics of the tool. Everything is well placed regarding selection of speed and torque and use in tight spaces.
