I was very impressed at how well this solved my problem of wanting to watch movies and slideshows on our HDTV. I use a Macbook Pro from a couple of years ago, and all I had to do was plug it in, and go to the "Displays" icon in the Systems Preference panel, where I selected "mirror displays". At that point everything that showed on my laptop, was also shown on the HDTV. To get the sound to work, I then entered the "sound" icon in the same Systems Preference panel, and selected the Samsung Tv as the output device. (You must have the cable connected to the HDMI input on the TV for either of these to show up in the Systems Preferences. You now have sound and video without an 'Apple TV" box. Thanks.

I use it almost everyday to watch TV from my country, it works perfectly!

If you buy it don't forget to go to the "Displays" icon in the Systems Preference panel, and select "mirror displays" for the image.
And go to the "sound" icon in the Systems Preference panel, and selected your Tv as the output device for the sound.

I works fine but I had to search around for additional instructions on how to set it up on the tvs. You only need to do this once for each tv that you use. These are instructions I found online.

DisplayPort to HDMI Sound is actually set up by using the MIDI setup utility found in :

Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup.
If you purchased an iWires cable direct from Apple the instructions are in the printed booklet that comes in the packaging. Most people don't read this as it's normally the case that when you plug a cable in to anything it just works (VCR, TiVo, Xbox, video camera etc). In this instance Apple are failing to live up to their catch-phrase as final setup is NOT intuitive; "it just DOESN'T work".

Video
System Preferences > Displays. There are 3 tabs in the window; Displays, Arrangement and Color. Be sure you are on the Displays tab. Bottom left of the window tick "Show displays in menu bar" and then bottom right click "Detect Displays".

Now click on the tab named Arrangement. Bottom left of the window tick "Mirror Displays".
You should now only see 2 tabs, Display and Color. Be sure you are on the Displays tab. Select the desired resolution for your TV (probably 1080i). leave all other settings at their default values.

Sound
System Preferences > Sound. There are 3 tabs in the window; Sound Effects, Output and Input. Be sure you are on the Sound Effects tab. Middle of the window select your TV where it says "Play sound effects through:".

Select the middle tab named Output.
Select your TV from the drop-down list next to HDMI, below where it says "Select a device for sound output".Read more ›

I have a 13in macbook pro. I had a regular HDMI cable with an adapter for a while but one day the adapter stopped working so I bought this wire which has no need for an adapter!! yay! It came very quickly, (ordered on the 5th and it just came in on the 9th) and I plugged it in and everything works! I'm very happy, but kept it at 4 stars because the cable feels very fragile and im not too sure how durable it is yet... honestly, for this price, I will be sure to be extra careful and I am totally happy buying again (:

As a true automotive race fan, I find it more difficult to view my favorite racing series on TV... Internet streaming seems to be the way to go these days, but I just could not see myself sitting at my home computer for hours at a time. The 24Hrs of Daytona was coming up fast and I needed a solution to my viewing quandary... Luckily, I found this Fosmon cable. I was a little hesitant to order at first -- especially after reading some of the reviews -- but I decided to give it a try. For $9.99, I figured it was a low cost/low risk option. I even paid the $5.99 for 1 Day Delivery...

I am so glad I bought this! Set up was a breeze, and the quality was spot on... This cable paid for itself after the first 15 minutes, as I was able to sit comfortably on my living room couch and enjoy the Daytona 24 in full HD... Definitely a "must have" item for those of you who don't want to spend countless hours at the computer watching races on the internet...

FYI, the "system" I am using is a late 2009 iMac OSX ver. 10.8.5 hooked up to my SHARP Aquos 42" HDTV. NOTE: It even passed audio, so I didn't need external speakers to hear the race!
