Style Name: 1500VA Verified Purchase
I am a software entrepreneur and work out of my home. This is the UPS I use to protect my workstation. At any given time my workstation is running a minimum of four guest virtual machines, along with the host. All of my primary work is stored on these machines(of course it gets offloaded to the cloud and my NAS nightly) and it's really my lifeblood. In the rural area I'm located in, power outages are commonplace.

This UPS has seen it's share of fun over the last year and half. It has yet to do something wrong. Here's the kind of punishment it's had to endure:

1) At least 30 outages since I purchased in 2012.
2) In every outage it successfully switched to battery backup without hiccup.
3) I average about 1 hour of runtime on battery.
4) The governor was off on one of my Generators that powers part of the house when we loose power. The UPS accurately refused to switch to utility(generator) power, when the generator was producing power too far out of safe frequency(in North America should be 60Hz). Frequency problems can often times be worse for equipment then voltage issues.
5) Extended outages whilst I was away. The UPS correctly forced my machine to go to sleep before it ran out of battery power.
6) Always alerts me if I'm away and there is an outage using the built in SMTP client.

I've definitely gotten my use out of it. Prior to my entrepreneurial ventures I served in a Director level capacity for a number of technology companies. I was always accustomed to buying APC and was a bit apprehensive about buying CyberPower instead. However, I'm glad I did. The price point is better, and as far as my experience, they are just as reliable, if not more so.

The only glitch I ran into, is once after a power failure, the UPS reported a battery issue. After it charged for a few minutes, I reset the UPS and it went away.

I would definitely buy CyperPower products again.

This review is for: CyberPower PR750LCD 525W UPS

OVERVIEW:
-----------

The home and small office UPS models we'll compare are:

- APC: SMT750, SMT1000
- APC: SMC1000, SMC1500
- CyberPower: CP850PFCLCD, CP1000PFCLCD, CP1350PFCLCD
- CyberPower: PR750LCD, PR1000LCD, PR1500LCD

These all:

(A) KEEP ELECTRICITY GOING DURING A BLACKOUT and give a computer TIME TO SAFELY AUTO-SHUTDOWN.

(B) Produce a PURE SINE WAVE to work with power supplies with Active PFC, like those on most Apple Macs, lots of newer windows PCs, etc.

(C) Cost in the low hundreds, so we avoid server room type features like zero transfer time, external batteries, etc.

We'll compare:
- How long things run during a blackout (RUNTIME)
- The WATTS they handle
- NOISE
- OUTLET COUNT and how many have battery power

We'll also compare:
- AVR CAPABILITY including BOOST and TRIM (explained later)
- RECHARGE TIME
- Size, cord length, other

Okay, let's get started, I'm looking for two that are quiet, can shutdown Window PCs and Macs safely, have good runtime, and some other things.

Received my ups in a very beat up box. So beat up the UPS driver marked it as possibly damaged (for claim purposes). After unboxing there was no visible damage and the display was intact. Pulled the batteries for inspection, moved the unit and re-installed the batteries. Plugged it in and started it up and was greeted with a wiring fault alarm. I just installed the outlet with attached conduit direct to the breaker box, I know there isn't a wire fault, WTF. This thing isn't detecting the ground internally and I am going to find out why. This thing is too heavy to ship back.

Start trouble shooting. Unplugged/shutdown ups, killed breaker and ring out the outlet with the multi-meter - all good. Hmmm. Pop off the lower panel and ring out the plug to the metal case by the batteries: No continuity to the ground prong (not good) many meg-ohms to the hot and neutral (normal, as expected). Pull the covers and check where the ground lead is connected to a stud on the back cover - good. Checking various points on the frame to the ground stud - no good.

The back cover has this really nice coat of paint on it, so I think maybe they are grounding the chassis through the fasteners and covers I removed. I removed some paint from contact points and install one cover but that isn't getting it done. Screw it, I'll run my own ground wire to the chassis. Crimped some eyelet connectors to my 10 gauge stranded copper and ran a new wire from the motherboard ground detection point (a screwed connection to the chassis) over to the big stud on the back cover where the main ground is landed. Now check continuity from the plug to the chassis and all is well.

Plug it in, turn on the breaker, start the ups and presto! No wiring fault alarm.
