It installed without any problems on my machine's Windows 8.1 partition. All I had to do was use the included driver disk with the "update driver wizard" to get it working. I never expected it to be that easy. I rebooted and attempted to do the same on my Windows 7 partition, but with no luck. I remembered that the card installed with the Renesas chipset [even says so in the product title,] so I searched for the appropriate file on the disk and found it in the "USB3.0 NEC720202(01)" folder. [And just in case you plan to use the card in an enterprise setting, it *is* compatible with Windows Server.] The file is called "RENESAS-USB3-Host-Driver-30230-setup.exe." If searching the driver disk for drivers through your computer's driver update wizard fails, use that file. If you want to get to that file quicker, enter "Renesas" in the search queue for the disk and it should show up. Double-click it and proceed with installation. Questions/comments/concerns can be left in a comment on my review. I hope I helped.

Been using this for quite a few months. It works excellently. Definitely getting faster transfer speeds with USB3 devices. But the disk with the drivers on it did prove useless to me. It didn't have the drivers to support this express card. And the CD was a mini disk, it wouldn't fit in my laptop. I was just fortunate that my father had a desktop I could use to open the CD. But the CD didn't have the right drivers in it.

Another person, SPFC63, posted a review on here and listed the necessary drivers needed for this card to work. I'm hoping he doesn't mind, but I'll post that part of his review on mine as well since they proved useful for me. So if you find this review helpful, be sure to list his review as helpful as well because it's because of him why I was able to get mine to work.

Driver installation is straightforward

There must be more than one version of the driver CD floating around, because I had zero difficulty.

I went to the "USB3.0 NEC720202(01)" directory and ran the program "RENESAS-USB3-Host-Driver-3023&Setup.exe", BEFORE inserting the card into my laptop's Express Card slot.

When I did insert the card into the slot, the driver installation went smoothly and quickly, and the card performed its function just fine.

NOW, can anyone explain to me the function of the cable that came with the card? It has a 2-pole coax plug on one end that obviously goes in the card's coax jack, but has a USB connector on the other end that goes I know not where. I'm guessing it conveys DC power from another USB port to the card or vice versa. Someone please solve this mystery.

I'd give the card a five-star rating if the documentation were clear, but lack of same demotes it to three stars. It's a shame, because the card performs flawlessly.

Hands down the BEST way to add Usb 3.0 functionality to your laptop, and well worth the money for what you're getting!!

I have an i7 Dell E6410 laptop that I got an extremely good deal on, and imo it's an awesome laptop but the only thing missing was usb 3.0. I am so glad that I found this flush mounted express card because not only did it instantly solve the problem but it also looks like it came from the factory with the laptop! I've been using it for transferring files over to my external usb 3.0 hard drive and works exactly like it should, and I have consistently been getting around 50-60 mbps transfer speeds without any problems whatsoever. This is an awesome flush mount usb 3.0 express card that I would definitely recommend to anyone, and I'm so glad I bought this one! There's only one single "gripe" that I have with it though and it's not by any means a deal breaker imo, but I wish there was a way that it could be "locked" into place somehow, because sometimes you have to hold the express card in place while removing a usb cable because the express card wants to come out with it sometimes. It's not a huge deal whatsoever through especially considering that it allows you to add usb 3.0 functionality to your laptop while still looking like it came from the factory, so it's still worth the 5 stars and then some imo!

got here so fast i couldnt believe it
it works on BOTH of my operating systems (windows 7 AND ubuntu 12.04)
i just upgraded to windows 8.1 so i have yet to test it on that one but im sure it will eventually work if it doesnt already
the only problem i have with this one is that if you dont hold it in when you disconnect stuff it will come out of the PCIe slot (it might just be my laptop)
as far as i know it installs automatically on these two operating systems and works VERY well
i dont have anything usb 3.0 yet but i do know that the usb 2.0 works just fine and is good for adding more usb slots if anything since everything is going usb now (including sound cards)

This USB3 Item was fantastic, although it does require Drivers, regardless of OS you are installing this on, Windows 7 will not carry these drivers. Does come with a disc, has multitude of drivers. Not just drivers for this particular product but for other products they sell as well. Inside the disc comes with manuals installation help etc. Small compact disc, comes with sleeve, packed inside the package, so make sure you do not throw this away. Drivers were installed just fine, use the Manual for the product to ensure you are installing the correct drivers. Tested on Windows 7 and Windows 8 and drivers provided worked just fine, Same drivers should work fine on older OS's as well. Had no issues so far, tested with Flash Drives, HDD, without the cable provided, does not crash, does not pop out when you unplug the devices, at least not for me. Keep the Original face-plate if you still have it. installs flat and looks part of the laptop its installed it, great product to upgrade from USB-2 to 3, and also good for permanent use.
