These little reed switches are a great deal. I'm happy to have ordered the set of 10 instead of the 2 I needed. I got a little aggressive with the first one and they are a bit fragile. Don't bend the wires too close to the glass because it is a very thin glass capsule and it can't take too much stress near the glass.

In having more than the two I needed, I am finding all kinds of applications that these little gems.

They work but not particularly sensitive and extremely fragile. The leads are stronger than the glass body so if you try to bend a lead you can easily snap the body instead. Impossible to get a bend close to the body.

I used a powerful rare earth magnet but I had to be within a couple of centimeters to trigger. At that distance the devices often pop out of a breadboard as the legs are ferrous and the magnet pulled them out of the board in the same sort of distance as the switches closed.

I feel like these were manufactured for a specific product and the ones were buying are just surplus from that. I found that they were many times more sensitive when the magnetic field is aligned axially with the glass body so I ended up using them by bending one leg backwards over the tip of a pair of needle nose pliers that were against the glass body. theyve worked for the applications Ive needed them for. although its kind of trinket like, my favorite application was in a little hall sensor field polarity indicator. I used one as the power switch so that the device is only on when its being used and doesnt any extra effort on my part except to bring the magnet to be measured close to the front.
