Editorial Reviews

Review

“In this timely book, Buhner reveals that plants are the people’s medicine, possessing attributes that pharmaceuticals never will.”

“Humans have misused antibiotics to the point that these drugs are becoming worthless. In Herbal Antibiotics, Buhner argues that by turning to plants for healing, we would be working with nature―and improving our chances of surviving the superbugs.”

“A comprehensive introduction worthy to be on the shelf of any holistic practitioner, herbalist, farmer or parent. The book … shows an appreciation for the melding of traditional practices, tools, and wisdom with modern research and insight.”

From the Back Cover

The Essential Guide to Building Your Natural Defenses

Bacterial infections are on the rise, and pharmaceutical antibiotics are increasingly powerless to stop them. Pathogenic bacteria are tenacious survivors; they outsmart modern medicine and become virulent "superbugs," resistant to antibiotics and increasingly deadly.

Stephen Harrod Buhner offers conclusive evidence that plant medicines, with their complex mix of multiple antibiotic, systemic, and synergistic compounds, should be our first line of defense against resistant infections. His indispensable reference explains the roots of antibiotic resistance, explores the value of herbal treatments, and provides in-depth profiles of the most reliably effective herbs, giving you the confidence to identify the best herbal formulas and make medicines yourself.

Incredible Book on Herbal Antibiotics♡
This book is pretty amazing! It takes some commitment to get through the whole book but you can just browse through parts of it. I am a victim of being prescribed way too many antibiotics. I'm forced to treat and cure my own infections now using things like umf-rated manuka honey and garlic. Reading this book is very validating for me. It's well written, well researched and extremely important reading for everyone who cares about their health. It teaches you how to make herbal medicine/tinctures to treat various infections, and details all the properties of medicinal foods and herbs.I highly recommend this book! It's juicy with relevant information for healers, medicine-makers, naturopaths and herbalists. If you've also been failed by modern healthcare, this book is a true gem.

You MUST own this book if you care about your own life - and/or if you have any loved ones, or family at all that you care about.
Further - If you have a health professional, a hospital administrator, or a health policy maker in your circles - you should also plead with them to read this book..... in the hopes that a grass-roots effort can somehow begin to shift the paradigm of the (now totally lost) war on infectious disease.

Just yesterday (May 9th) - A top news outfit had a headline which linked to a story about a new resistant strain of Gonorhea in Hawaii that is TOTALLY RESISTANT TO ALL ANTI-BIOTICS, but even more sad was the article's discussion of how Government officials may intervene requiring pharmacuetical companies to develop a new anti-biotic to deal with this most recent issue. We all know by now that the definition of insanity: is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results - obviously no one involved with this news story has ever heard of Stephen Buhner.

The data showing the population rates of common infections now becoming resistant infections have rounded the corner and are now plotted vertical upwards for many bacteria, and with new ones joininng these ranks everyday (stories like the above issue in Hawaii are more and more - at least once a week now). While this might sound alarmist - it's actually all very very it's true, notat all alarmist and totally grounded reality.

We are arriving at the point where no one's circles will go untouched by a resistant infection, whether it be yourself, a family member or a close friend, or a despised but dedicated co-worker (cough, cough, sneeze).

And on that contageous note - as equally important, be sure to keep a close watch for this book's soon to be released companion title "Herbal Anti-Virals".

This book is such a timely gift from Stephen to all of humanity - arriving while we helplessly teeter on the razors edge of a very dangerous vertical cliff with regard to a mass casuality event for which the Western Medicine paradigm will be totally useless.

This book is equally relevant for a protecting yourself from the inevitable deadly regional or even worldwide massive uncontrollable resitant bacterial outbreak - or if you've just recently aquired a paper-cut at work last Tuesday and you want to be careful. If that paper cut starts looking a little red, and continues to grow more and more don't ignore it and hope that it just goes away - and if it worsens and you end up having to go to the Emergency Room - that paper cut might also very quickly become your secondary concern.

No...don't go to the hospital if you can avoid it - the resistant infections you'll be exposed to there, and which you might acquire there can have you in intensive care and on life support just 72 hours later. But what's even more scary now is the fact that these deadly resistance bacteria once largly confined to hospitals are now more and more commonly being aquired outside of hospital environments. They've taken to the streets, and yes - they are even in thar building where you work, where you initially got that bothersome paper-cut lastTuesday, that you at first thought was nothing.

The Western medical establishment truly does not know what to do but Stephen Buhner does - and with elegance, and plentiful clinical and scientific references to support the information he's provided in this book.

This book is so good and so essential and so tremendously well researched and referenced and just loaded with details - that it very easily could end up saving your life, while the Hospital staff tells you that they've tried everything, and now doesn't know what to do.

It is something that is necessary because of the horrible miscalulation and errors of a totally wrong-minded model within the structure of conventional western medicine. A wrong paradigm born out of reductionist logic and an abundence of arrogance towards the inate intelligence of the survival mechanisms that exist within nature.

I dare say - that a considerable cross-section of the earth's human population - as a species really almost doesn't deserve to be able to own this book for what been allowed to be duped by arrogant western medicine paradigms, and for allowing it to still conitinue down the same road, albeit with ample warning.

No matter the sum Stephen ever realizes financially in return for having authored this book (even if it's in the billions - which I personally think he deserves) - this book will still forever and permanently remain generous to the human race on Stephen's behalf.

Buy the book - it very well could save your life or the life of a loved one - especially in the case of an infection for which the hospital staff has said "I'm sorry we've tried everything, there's nothing else we can do". Yes, Buy the book.

Professor Buhner has done immense work on this text. While I have 1-3 of all his books, this is SO RADICALLY REVISED, I do not recognize it. My opinion is consider this a new book.

I love his passion and firmness with educational errors in Herbal Pharmacology. In Tick infection or Lyme land, being "professional" means to some ill folks act "dead," and be anal with flat emotions like Geek pagan scholars in BC. Hardly, one does not write unless there is passion, and I like his SPICE.

While I may not agree with every point he makes, I have revised my opinion of our work 20x in the last year.

Herbs like essential oil science are very useful, but I would add some synthetics are far more powerful AT TIMES AND IN SOME PEOPLE. At other times herbs leave other synthetics in the dust.

DR. BUHNER is also a markedly clear and interesting writer. I would imagine he could make doing laundry sound interesting. Things I knew, he discussed in an utterly superior fascinating manner--I loved reading on the familiar, not just the new. Who is that good a writer?

So despite the reality I may not agree with every comment, since he makes 500 points, and very clearly, I feel this is a top decade book, and we owe DR. BUHNER'S IMMENSE SACRIFICE--A VERY DEEP THANK YOU.

    Thank you Professor........ BRAVO!!

A useful resource to be sure.

The first part of the book clearly and extensively explains bacteria, how they work, how they learn how to become resistant and why they have. This underlying knowledge is a really great foundation to understanding how other types of antibiotic and antimicrobial agents, specifically from plants, lichens, etc. continue to be effective where pharmaceutical antibiotics may not be. When it comes to the specific treatments and dosages, an inexperienced lay person or armchair herbalist who thinks they are an herbalist but isn't, is going to be massively overwhelmed and potentially hurt themselves or someone else. Plus these recipes for treatment are long and complicated. It could easily make the reader believe that if they don't or can't follow these protocols, their treatment of a bacterial illness or infection will be ineffectual. This is not true. There are many ways to treat MRSA, for example, and if the treatment protocols in the book can't be done by the reader, my advice is to do more research into antibiotic plants medicines because there are numerous simpler protocols to treat MRSA other than how this book recommends. That said, if you are interested in using antibiotic and healing plant medicines, you'll learn a lot from this book.

Took a month to receive the book. Having said that, the book itself is in fantastic condition. The book is a fantastic addition to my herbal book collection.. I already have "Herbal Antivirals" by the same author. Both books go into incredible depth, and if you read from the start the book "flows" really well. So much detail and knowledge passed onto the reader. If your into herbal medicine both books are an essential addition to your library.
