This is a massive an entertaining game that can take roughly 1 hour to load the smaller version onto your tablet.

I am posting this so you will be warned about the size and time it takes to load the game. I have a very fast WIFI and a quad core android tablet and in 21 minutes I have only loaded 20% of the game. When this monster is done downloading I will update the review about the game and its features. The download finished in 53 minutes as the last half of the game loaded in faster.

This starter for the game is only 12.6 MB but it has to load the game data. It asks if I wanted to load it into my memory storage, my internal ram storage or onto my internal expansion storage. You can select from two sizes of data files that are 1.8 GIG or 3.5 GIG. You better have a good and fast WIFI system to down load this and do not use your Phone's data plan. The game is massive and the 1.7 GIG version is roughly 50 times bigger than a standard sized game that you will download. I couldn't even load it onto my Kindle Fire and so I had to install it onto an Android tablet.

Be patient and just take your time and it may take hours to download even with a good WIFI system you might even want to plug in your tablet if the battery is low as this will eat up a lot of power.

If you have to buy the game please note that it is available on Google Play for $1.99 and it is version 1.5. The version on Amazon is version 1.4.1 and it is $2.99. You might as well purchase the newer version for an Android tablet and pay a lower price. If it will fit onto your tablet then get it today. Even if it doesn't fit get it and leave it in the cloud as your next tablet might be more powerful with more memory space and you can always download it later.

The loaded game popped up with the main screen with links to YouTube, Facebook, and twitter. It contains Flurry Analytics and In App Billing which was announced on the web page. The game is a very good port from the PC game of the same name. It does read and write to your device storage and have access to the internet. It does had some use of profanity, sexual content, nudity mature themes, and alcohol, tobacco and drug use. Add in violence and you need to make sure that the game is played by a more mature audience. When you go look at the YouTube outtakes you are 1 click away from some very mature erotica games so take care that your children don't use the game and get to those sites.

There are in app purchases available for many items including armor, riches and training. I am not into in app purchases and so I will not contribute any money. The game is an extensive journey and you can select several modes from easy, normal to old school. Your character has many traits and the easier level you select the higher his rating is on those items. They are strength, vitality, luck, dexterity, charisma, and rhythm. You can increase these skills up for each one. You are provided 12 increases on the easy level and you already get to start with 8 on each rating.

The game screen was only 3 inches by 6 inches on my 10.1 inch tablet screen. I had downloaded the smaller 1.8 GIG version of the game. At times the screen expanded to fill the screen but I did not know what caused the screen to expand but the graphics and story line are very good. The characters speak their scripts which are very nicely done. It makes it nice that you don't have to read the script all of the time. As you complete a level you can approach the book and the game will be saved.

This is an excellent and entertaining role playing game and the game is actually fun to play. Even though the game has Flurry Analytics there are no present permissions to take any personal data from you. There is also no adware. I rate the game as a 5 star item and I enjoy playing it. I will continue to play it until it tries to force me to make an in app purchase to be able to advance. So far the game has been a lot of fun and it is the best adventure game that I have seen.

Just as a note. The online store is available but the game states that the items are all attainable (Eventually if you are persistent) just as in the original release of this classic game.

RPG that Focuses on Entertaining, Easily Worth the $3

The Bard's Tale is a kind of reboot of the original Bard's Tale series of my youth. It's not actually tied directly to any of the 3 original Bard's Tale games. InXile, which has been at the heart of some other cool projects like Wasteland 2, is also working on a true sequel called Bard's Tale IV. This Bard's Tale was created in 2004 as an Xbox/PS2/PC game. Some versions include the original 3 Bard's Tale games. If you play the Amazon version on a tablet, you get the originals. If you play on the Fire TV, you don't seem to.

The game is a 3rd person perspective RPG, with a ridiculous amount of 4th wall breaking dialog with the protagonist (voiced by Cary Elwes, of The Princess Bride fame) and the narrator. I'm still working on my play-through, and will update this section once I've put in a little more time. So far it's fun, and worth the $3 price.

Notes:

The game definitely isn't for little kids, with plenty of adult humor.

Fire Hardware Compatibility:

The game is listed as compatible with pretty much every Fire OS platform, all the way back to the original Kindle Fire, as it only required Android 2.3. For fun, I decided to give that a try, using the low resolution assets (the game downloads either low or high resolution graphics files on first launch) and turning the graphic quality and frame rates all the way down. I did the same thing on the lowest spec Fire TV (the 2014 Fire TV Stick). The game is pretty playable on the original 2011 Kindle Fire, which shouldn't be a huge surprise, I guess, since it was released in 2012. On the 2014 Fire TV Stick I would describe the game as "marginally playable." It's even a chore to turn down the graphics quality on your first run because the game is so choppy with the default settings. Note: even the low resolution assets are about 1.8 GB, which is a lot for these older devices, while the High Resolution assets are more like 3.5 GB.

Once you step up to marginally more powerful hardware, things change significantly.

Controls:

One the tablet side, it would be nice if they would do a control update. They should go take a look at Knights of the Old Republic and check out the touch interface there. I really prefer the camera controls that Aspyr created in that game to the ones in this one. It's better with a game controller, which is no surprise since it was originally developed for a console.

GameCircle Integration:

Amazon GameCircle integration includes Leaderboards and Achievements. Syncing save games between devices would be nice. GameCircle supports this, but it doesn't seem that The Bard's Tale does. It would be nice if Square One added this.

Controls are reasonable, on a Note 4 and I managed with little problem.

Game itself is a nice throwback game of good console (circa PS2) quality. It is quite linear and despite a FF7 style world map there are no extra hard bosses or interesting hidden away places you can discover. The few side missions about, you are told to gobthete and are very hard to miss.

Very large install space especially if you go for the high res textures. I did and it ran fine on a Note 4. Although due to its size, is definitely not a keeper. I also saw little replay value.

Dialogue is quite snappy and it makes fun of common game elements frequently. Story is OK, if not predictable. Having a name like "The Bard's Tale" there are occasional musical interludes that clearly didn't have the biggest budget allocated to them and are a bit cringe inducing but fun. I really wanted to kill the trio at end and did half expect the game to give me that opportunity...

About 12 hours to complete while exploring rather thoroughly.

I never played the original, so I was very surprised at how much fun this game was. I took it on faith from having read other reviews. I am not usually a fan of putting full PC/console games on to a handheld device, but in this case I think it works very well. It is genuinely funny and clever. It is quite knowing, as to the style of this game, and plays with some of the standard themes of this type of game. However, even if you have never played a fantasy/ RPG/ point and click before, this is an excellent place to start. It's a lot of fun. The only thing I would say though, is that it may be better on a bigger screen. It works fine on my Galaxy S3, but I'm guessing that bigger is probable better. The graphics are fairly dense, though I can see them fine, not everyone might be able to.

What can I say? For what it is, it's a very good game. It's on a mobile platform though, so I haven't spent that much time with it, and to be honest, neither will I. I might finish it at some point in the next 2 years, I might not. I only play it on the bus on the way to work. It's a good game in any case. I got it free on one of Amazon's promotions. That has not influenced my review in any way. I wouldn't have paid 5 quid for it. I think that's what they charge. Look, I don't bloody know. If you want a nice RPG, then you can't really go wrong with this.

At last, a full sized RPG for the kindle fire hd, and an excellent one at that. I didn't realise until after I had purchased it that it is actually a port from the PS2 and XBOX version from a number of years ago. I was concerned that maybe the console controls would not have transferred well to the touch screen, making the game difficult to complete. But I need not have worried, the game plays well all the way through and having just completed it I can say that it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. There's not many
places that you can get 17 hours entertainment for a couple of quid. If you have even the slightest interest in the action RPG genre then buy this, you won't regret it.
