I figured this would be a cool nerdy desk trinket for the office - I was right. It looks really great sitting on my desk, and I read the size, 4.5", and had a picture in my head of how big it would be, but when I received it I was surprised at how large it actually is. As some others have mentioned, this globe is just slightly too blue for Jupiter, but I understand why and it's something I can easily overlook.

From just looking at pictures and things, I wasn't entirely sure about how it worked or if the surface was glossy or not. It's basically the same as a ship's compass floating in water, only this is entirely encompassed in a clear outer casing and a fluid (probably water). The outer shell is a shiny plastic so it appears glossy, unlike the product image which makes it appear to have a matte look. The reason the print on the inner globe is slightly blue is to allow ambient light to pass through the image so it can hit the inner electronics to get the rotation going. It's not a fast spin - I have an office with three large windows that quite a bit of light comes in through, and today it took about 25 seconds to do one complete rotation.

It's a neat thing to have on your desk, but I think it's a little pricey for what it is. I can see the seam on the outer shell and the inner print, but it's not noticeable unless you inspect it closely (a foot or two form your face). I probably won't buy another at this price, but I would at sub-$100 prices.

Everyone comes to my desk at work wondering what this thing is. I would get the entire Solar System if I could afford it. This is a well made product and indeed a great conversation piece. It works well indoors using artificial light however I find that it works on certain areas of my desk. I think it is very sensitive to interference which prevents it from spinning until I place it on another area of my desk, away from monitors, or any power supply.

Great and quite novel product.
It requires a bit more light than I thought it would (i.e., won't rotate in a room lit by modest fluorescent, but the manual tells you that).
By a window, it's great.
Note that you should probably get the wooden stand. The outer plastic sphere is rather soft and scratchable, and I think that the 3 hard plastic mounts shown on the product illustration have the potential to scratch it. The wooden "pedestal" is a bit overpriced for what you get, but probably worth it. You only need to buy that once. It's a flattish low pedestal with a round central depression matched to the globe. No scratching, no worry.

This thing is really cool!! I don't see a seam in the photo as others have mentioned. I can even hold the globe in my hand and it still spins. Fascinating and fun! Don't know if it's worth $145, but I like it.

I admire this product. It makes a high quality impression. As soon as natural or artificial light shines on it, it begins to rotate. Be aware it does require a certain amount of light, not overly much, but in dimmer places it doesn't rotate.
It looks right out of a science fiction movie - simply amazing to look at and for this kind of innovation (no wires, no batteries) it is well worth its price.

My wife bought me this as a birthday gift, and I absolutely love it. It sits on my desk at work and I have had several coworkers stop mid-sentence when they realize it is turning. It is fun to watch them touch the surface and Jupiter continues to rotate. I just tell them it's magic! We plan to get one of the Earth globes for our house.

Very cool to watch spin. It works perfectly in my office with 2 fluorescent light fixtures. Now I just need a model telescope on my shelf to "observe" it with. The only nitpicks I have is the color scheme is a little too blue compared to the creamy beige color Jupiter appears as in telescopes and the print on the bottom is really noticeable if you're looking up at it on a shelf.
