not perfect, but considering the price versus a Framemesiter

Works well, not perfect, but considering the price versus a Framemesiter, well worth it. I just ordered a 2nd one for my Genesis. Currently using for my RGB modded SNES mini.

I spent a lot of time analyzing this, the first thing I notice with cheap upscalers is the smoothing effect. Basically, move your sprite a bit, and it will be a touch blurry, when the character stops, you'll notice it sharpen up quickly. This happens on everything, it's not the most noticeable thing, but I was previously using an S-Video upscaler, and it was the same effect, but much worse on that. The colors look great, there is a little bit of added lag I noticed when comparing to my S-Video upscaler (kanex pro), so there's that. Lag isn't ridiculously bad, but it's noticeable esp when playing games like Tetris Attack, or Gradius/shmups. It's very manageable, and better than other units that look exactly like this one. This is very similar to a Panlong unit that looks the same.

All in all, I'm happy with having two of these until I decide to get an XRGB-mini Framemeister. I was able to beat Contra 3 with it, so I don't think the little lag will hold me back in the meantime. There are no zoom/scaling features, but somehow it's perfectly sized on my Vizio TV, which has very few options.

FANTASTIC for RETRO GAMING

I bought this to use with my SCART cables for (NES, SNES, Gamecube, Neo Geo AES/CMVS, and Genestis (sadly there are no SCART cables for the Dreamcast) so that I could play retro games at their highest resolution RGB output on a "modern HDMI tv".

YES

you won't have the scan lines that a CRT tv can generate to help with color seperation, BUT you can always buy a scan line generator from retro gaming websties.

BUT

for those of use who simply do not have room for a CRT TV and want to play your retro collection on a modern TV this is your best bet.

Keep in mind that all light gun games will not work on a non CRT TV. Sorry ....we haven't figurd out a way aroudn that just yet.

I recently bought a Sega 32X RGB SCART Cable for my NTSC Sega 32X. That cable sends a pure RGB 480i signal to my NTSC TV. There is just one little problem, we don't use SCART in the USA. So I bought this converter from amazon. It not only lets me hookup my SCART cables, but it also lets me use my Xbox 360 S and 32X with my Turtle Beach X11 Headset and converts the 480i resolution from my 32X to 1080p! It can also convert PAL to NTSC and vice versa. It can also just bypass PAL signals to a PAL TV and NTSC signals to a NTSC TV via HDMI. This converter is a must have for US SCART users and even Europeans as well!

UPDATE 1/26/2015!
Two years later, this thing is still amazing but an XRGB system will have more features and is better at everything than this. This converter is perfect for consoles with RGB output and have been modified for 50/60Hz compatibility. I recently installed a 50/60Hz switch in my Sega Genesis Model 1 Revision VA6 and made a discovery that may be useful to those who installed said switch. When using an NTSC Sega Genesis set to 50Hz to play PAL games, the system will output NTSC 50Hz instead of PAL 50Hz and it doesn't work properly on NTSC 60Hz TVs here in the USA when using standard composite (yellow RCA jack) video cables. It will result in a distorted black and white image and the picture won't be centered on the screen. RGB SCART cables do not have this problem and will display the image correctly and in color. Those should be used instead for better quality video and for color in an NTSC system modified for 50Hz. If you still want to get color in composite signals, then you will need to add extra circuitry. I believe the same applies to PAL Mega Drive units in 60Hz mode, but I could be wrong so let me know if this is the case for PAL systems.

Works as expected. Menu system for switching video modes is not at all explained in the 1 page instructions that come with it.

Things to note.
Switching between different video modes and Hertz is displayed on screen only and takes a long time to switch. If you had no video because your TV/Monitor didn't support its output you might think it wasn't working. Once you find the right setting for you video you probably never need to change it but just incase it is good to write it down onto a text file in you computer. You have no idea which one you are on if you accidentally change it.

After you get the right setting it does remember the setting even if powered off and works great from there forward.

Decent, but by no means the best you can do

I bought this as a cheap alternative to the Framemeister ($375+). I'd recommend this for people who just want their vintage systems to look a bit better on their HDTV's, but not for those wanting the absolute best representation possible.

The main problem is with motion. Any motion on the screen is somewhat blurred, and causes things to get a similar muddled look to what they get through a standard hookup on HDTVs. You'll notice a distinct difference between the way the game looks on pause, or while staying completely still, versus how it looks while things are moving. It will look basically perfect when you stay completely still, and you'll be able to clearly see every individual pixel, but that will go out the window once things start moving.

Overall a good alternative to something more expensive like the Framemeister, but not for those of us looking for the best picture quality possible.
