I was torn about whether or not to purchase this product because of all the differing reviews. So torn in fact, that I purchased both the 700 model and 730 model. This review is for customers like me who can't decide which model to purchase. The cell phone that was used is a HTC Droid Incredible II.

Personally, I prefer the look of the 700 model. It is straight white, not pearled like the 730. I prefer simple white. As far as comfort--both models are the same. Both are relatively comfortable, except when jumping around. The device bounces around on your collarbone which is annoying--but this is only if you're jumping with reckless abandonment like I was :)Otherwise their is only minute movement, nothing too troublesome or uncomfortable. I heard negative reviews on the way the ear buds fit to the device. They said the magnets were a joke. I've found that the magnets work just fine--assuming you place them properly in the device. Otherwise they will fall out, but that's user error. I purchased these devices for working out in the gym mainly. I did my best using both devices to jump up and down, bend over, jog, etc. Both devices ear buds stayed in place just fine. There was no breaking up with sound in either device when the phones were next to me, or near my person. This includes in pockets, under my shirt, behind me,on my arm, etc. I even swung the phone around me, and there was no sound disturbances for either device.

Now, when it came to the phone being separate from my person. Both devices had comparable range. However, it seemed the 700 model was slightly superior, but only by a few feet. I'd say the range I managed was 30+ feet for both devices, and this was in my house, with my cell phone on the charger in my bedroom at the far end of the house.Read more ›

I own both the 700 and 730 models. I purchased the 700 3 weeks ago and used it extensively. I love the 700. The sound is not stellar, but it isn't totally crappy. The sound lacks depth, like the difference between AM sound and FM sound, though not as extreme. The sound also distorts on the loud end. However, it worked great.

The 730 has a few extra features that make it better, like the voice battery status and other messages. The sound is much better. The sound quality now rivals mid-tier phones that would please the average user who likes bass and mostly clear sound. It's full sound, but not audiophile quality. I am no audiophile and do have mild-medium hearing loss. I hate total flat response, anyway, even if it is "pure." I like good clean sound with a little extra nice, tight bass. Compared to my Bose QC15s, this is not too far off. I'd say this is pretty darn good for BT headphones. This would be worth the upgrade hands down if not for one big flaw.

The range of this is far inferior to the 700 I own. It drops out sound and makes it choppy after 10 feet. With the 700, I can be 2 stories down, 20 feet away, and choppiness is minimal. Not so with 730. Just turning my back to my phone from 10 feet away and sound drops. Knowing the battery life is a little better on the 730s, it makes me wonder if LG didn't simply reduce the BT radio power for more efficiency? I hope not. I was perfectly fine with the battery life of the 700s. That's just speculation, but the radio performance between the two headsets is huge.

I ordered a Tone+ HBS-730 from Amazon, and have reason to believe that it was a knock off, a few suspicions compared to the original (as well as promotion photos on Amazon and LG's website)are as follows:

1) The LG logo is not located anywhere on the product, instead there is a sticker covering area which reads "Tear invalid".
2) The power slide is placed facing in the opposite direction. (towards ear bud ON, away OFF).
3) Power/Phone button has red ring around it instead of a blue one.
4) Play/Pause button doesn't have a silver ring around it (original has one).
5) Ear bud has visible silver mesh in it.
6) After plugged in for 24 hours charge light still lit (should be a +/- 2 hour charge, after which light goes out).
7) Bigger, heavier than the real product and feels cheaper in quality.
8) Package slightly different from the one showed in description.
9) Silver band around perimeter of both ear buds (original has none).
10) Exit points of wire from harness have no rubber gaskets around them (original does) looks very unfinished and prone to breakage.
11) Battery level indicator and EQ are non-functioning.
12) Ear buds appear different shape and size.

I had spoken with tech support at LG who also seemed to think this was not a legitimate LG product. Currently working with Amazon on this, customer service was extremely helpful and understanding. I will update status upon resolution. Replacement should arrive tomorrow.Read more ›
