An overlooked classic Alan Ladd, made in 1950. He plays a captain in the Oss in a small town in Italy near the Swiss and Austrian borders during WWII. He is in love with the local girl of course. He is betrayed and only after the war is over does he return to the town to discover that almost everyone there hates him for a Nazi atrocity. The girl is now a Baronessa, and there are enough suspects to keep one guessing as to who and why Ladd was betrayed. Two things struck me as very interesting. First, it was filmed in studio, but with accurate European vehicles of the period, not just one or two but not an American model to make it out of place. Secondly, Ladd does all his stunt work here. Several scenes of his own acrobatic skills, and fight scenes that could not be duplicated with a double. Very well made and very suspenseful. The film has the original "Mona Lisa" song, sung in Italian, only after it got the Best Song Oscar and Nat King Cole recorded it did it become so popular.

Decent movie, worth the watching if you like old mystery dramas. While I like Alan Ladd, I thought this was a bit slow, mostly due to the plot. I guess I could start off with the rather vague title which neither gives a clue, nor portrays the real character of hero. Action sequences are minimal and somewhat stilted, though I understand that Ladd did his own stunts.

The plot is basically about who was the character who betrayed "Carey" and his behind-the-lines team, causing Carey's capture, the death of his buddy, his partisan love, and several of the villagers who were fighting the German's. After the war Carey returns to shockingly find his love is alive and married to a local politician.

The plot unfolds with a couple of twists to it, and when you thing somebody looks like the culprit, they get bumped off . Frankly, even at the end I wasn't really sure who the traitor was!

This is a great movie ... done in 1950 and not far off from World War II definitely has the feel of a war scene ... very suspenseful up until the end and when you think all is revealed there is a twist... Wanda Hendrix is especially hot with the Italian accent ...

Great movie if you like classics. Alan Ladd was great and the story is good too. After WW2 Ladd returns to Italy, having previously been wounded as an OSS agent and his partner being killed, to find out who "ratted them out". Wish Amazon would obtain his movie "The Glass Key", another great flick.

Captain Carey U.S.A. is one of those movies which is aired far too infrequently. Not a masterpiece, perhaps, but a very solid film centering on the title character's search for the informant who betrayed his WWII OSS unit to the Nazis in Italy only a few years prior. Mostly, this movie has been the answer to the trivia question, "Which movie won the Academy Award for the song, 'Mona Lisa'?" While the lyrics are never sung, and Nat King Cole's voice makes no appearance, Captain Carey, U.S.A. did in fact win the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1950. The movie itself deserves to be remembered as a fine bit of vintage Hollywood movie-making. Watch and enjoy!

I admit it, I love old movies. "Captain Carey USA" starring Alan Ladd is an excellent complex thriller about an incident in World War II and its investigation after the war by Alan Ladd.

I enjoy watching his movies. I added this to my prime watchlist and then watched it when I could. I had seen it years ago, but really enjoyed it this second time.

I really enjoy the old black and white WWII movies. While not a classic, it is worth the time. Alan Ladd is still fun to watch.
