When I was a pre- and young teen, I read MAD magazine quite a bit (along with Cracked). You had Spy Vs. Spy and Don Martin cartoons every issue and these were the good things about MAD, i.e. something everyone could get. The problem with MAD (then and now) is that it's written by people with a wide range of cultural exposure, resulting in skits that refer to current adult TV shows (e.g. "Grey's Anatomy") and movies (e.g. "Twilight") that kids don't watch because MAD is primarily targeted/viewed by younger kids. Then there's the case where they lampoon a show from the early 80s (e.g. the Rankin-Bass "Hobbit" cartoon) and expect that some ten-year-old kid is going to get it all. Season 3's "Thanksgiving" episode is, however, one of MAD's best (Joke-a-hontas, PilGRIMM).

This was a near perfect episode. I wasn't repulsed by any of it. The Annoying Adventures of Iron Man was kind of creepy (That's what I hate about the Annoying Orange, the visual style. To quote the Nostalgia Critic: "It's like someone experiencing extreme night terrors after drinking moonshine & watching Terry Gilliam cartoons!"), but funny. The rest of this episode was hilarious. Taking Nemo was great, but my favorite sketch (& the reason I got this one) was Once Upon a Toon. I've just seen the first 2 episodes of Once Upon a Time & it's a great show, so I naturally appreciated it. But what I really liked about it was seeing all the old Cartoon Network characters together again. I used to watch some of those shows during the 90s so it was nostalgic (for the record, I think Johnny Bravo is pretty funny, but now I find Dexter's Laboratory is a mixed bag, Cow & Chicken disgusting but the Powerpuff Girls are still great. I wish they had had a speaking part in this one.), & we got to see a great (& rare) appearance by Samurai Jack. Anything with a reference to him is a must-see or sometimes even a must-buy for me It's sketches like these that make me wish the show was 22 minutes instead of 11. But like I said, this is one of the best Mads ever. I wish Warner Bros. would just release the darn thing on DVD already! This season looks to be the best of them all.

Mad always did make me laugh. But then so did Roger Rabbit. Always love those great parodies. Did I spell that right? At any rate it is always funny!

I own the other seasons as well. They didn't put as much effort as the previous two seasons though. Twenty.
