The book is suitable for beginners and intermediates. Even as a highly experienced practitioner, I learned quite a bit from my read.
The authors do an excellent job of developing a sample application that covers most of the data modeling and analysis challenges you are likely to encounter in real world development. Following the tradition of the best programming guides, the application scenario is relevant and used consistently throughout.
In addition to covering the basics everyone needs to get started, the book gives a good treatment of advanced topics such as set analysis and aggr(). I was pleased to see use of real world advanced techniques such as storing point in time expressions in variables.
I was also impressed with the editorial layout of the book which I found very effective and easy to read. Good clean layout (like a great dashboard), good use of tips, the right amount of pictures and examples.
I was shocked by its simplicity and power.
Note: QlikView is much easy to use if you are a programmer type. If you are more a user type, consider using Tableau instead.
I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for study material for their certification (it definately helped me pass my exam) as well as for entry level Qlikview developers. I dare say intermediate level developers as well due to the authors' best practice guides - but I'm to new with Qlikview to put money on it...

I started working with a QlikView partner and realised quite early that they expected me to pick it up as I went along and were not going to give me formal training. I am experienced with other Business Intelligence and Relational Database tools so was eager to learn QlikView as quickly as possible.
I worked my way from start to finish following all examples. Each chapter builds on the previous chapter and eventually the knowledge comes together. However, the book is not perfect....
There are a significant number of errors but thankfully most of these are documented and amended on the publishers website. Before starting, I went through the book and manually corrected all known errors. I even found one which is included on the publishers list.
At some points, the explanations are not as clear as they could be but for the most part, they are good. The supporting Zip file, available from the publishers website (c.900MB), has raw data and solutions for each chapter so if you want to start at Chapter 7 (Scripting), you can open the Chapter 6 solution and start from there.
Personally, I did not like the fictional company, High Cloud airlines. Some of the metrics seemed very industry specific and were quite hard to comprehend. This made applying the knowledge more difficult than it needed to be. I would have preferred a retail business as it is easier for the average person to understand.
Finally, and this is probably important for beginners, From opening this book with very little experience with Qlik, I was able to pass the Designer Certification exam in c.6 weeks. I am currently working towards my Developer Certification so am revising with the book, this time concentrating on the more technical chapters. I have noticed that some of the areas I found hard to understand on the first pass and becoming clearer.
Un libro equilibrato insomma, e credo con una buona copertura dei più importanti temi (sono 500 pag di roba)
