Easy Clean-Up
Cleaning your Stick Blender is easy! To simplify cleaning, rinse the prep bowl, cover and blade immediately after use, so that food won't dry onto them. The blending shaft, whisk head, chopper/grinder bowl and mixing cup are dishwasher safe. Everything else wipes clean with a damp cloth.
Whisk Tips
Use the whisk attachment for beating heavy cream or egg whites. It may also be used for any task that you would normally whisk by hand, like crepe batters or eggs for omelets. For best results when beating heavy cream, use a chilled bowl and chill the whisk attachment.
Reversible Blade
The Cuisinart Smart Stick Hand Blender chopper/grinder attachment is equipped with a reversible blade. This blade is sharp on one side and blunt on the other. The blade is attached to a plastic ring which slides over the blade assembly shaft, so it can be easily turned over to select the appropriate blade.
Blending & Mixing
The specially designed blade is for mixing and stirring all kinds of foods, including salad dressings, powdered drink products, and sauces. It is ideal for combining dry ingredients, and can be used to emulsify mayonnaise, too. This blade mixes and stirs while adding only a minimum of air to your mixture. A gentle up-and-down motion is all you need to make the most flavorful, full-bodied liquid recipes. Be careful never to remove the Cuisinart Smart Stick Hand Blender from the liquid while in operation.
Features and Benefits
Low/High Two Speed Power Button: Allows you to activate the hand blender at the touch of a button. Simply press and hold down the Low or High button to blend or pulse. Once the button is released, blending will stop.
Comfort Handle: The handle allows you to control the hand blender with ease.
Blending Attachment: This attachment easily snaps into the motor body housing. The fixed stainless blade is partially covered by a stainless housing that keeps splashing to a minimum. Press the release button on the back of the unit to detach for easy cleaning.
Whisk Attachment: The full-size Chef's Whisk attachment snaps into the motor body housing. This attachment is great for whipping up your favorite creams and toppings for waffles and desserts.
Chopper/Grinder Attachment: Chop, mince and grind hard cheese, onions, nuts, chocolate, carrots and more with the Cuisinart chopper/grinder attachment. The chopper/grinder attaches to the blender motor body in place of the blender shaft or whisk attachment.
Mixing Cup: 2-cup blending cup is microwave and dishwasher safe. Use this container to blend drinks, shakes, salad dressings and more. Designed for easy gripping and drip-free pouring.

REVIEW SUMMARY:
Cuisinart's CSB-79 Smart Stick is a handy blender (albeit one whose results are a bit chunky at the best of times), but the failure of its blending shaft's built-in blade after a period of moderate use is a known issue that CSB-79 owners cannot easily -- or cheaply -- repair.
So, I’d give it 2 ½ stars – i.e. 4 ½ stars for blender's overall quality (if one doesn’t need perfectly-smooth results), minus 2 stars for failure of blending shaft's built-in blade and barriers to blade replacement.
REVIEW:
When will I learn not to ignore field reports from other Amazon customers?
While Cuisinart's CSB-79 Smart Stick blender is generally every bit as handy as the many blog and magazine kudos it has gotten over the years indicate (especially if one likes a chunkier, ‘rustic’ texture in one’s soups and purees), I'm sad to confirm the experiences of those Amazon reviewers who have reported that the CSB-79’s blending shaft's built-in blade eventually snaps in half and detaches -- and while blending soft, liquidy items, mind you -- after a year or more of moderate use.
Last night -- after 2 1/2 years of ownership during which I have used the blender very infrequently (i.e. about 20 times total) to puree homemade soups on my stove -- this blender's blade snapped in half and detached while I was pureeing a cooled-down vegetable soup. The soup had been stovetop-pressure-cooked on high for four hours, so neither hardness nor stringiness was an issue with the soup's contents (i.e. chopped celery, onions, shallots, chives, mushrooms, and spinach).
Equally vexing, I can also co-sign the reports of other Amazon customers who've reported that the CSB-79’s blade-failure problem -- which I suspect results from structural weakness in the blade, as the snapped blades in other reviewers' posted photos are broken along the exact same fault-line as my broken blade -- is not an issue that owners can fix by simply ordering a replacement blade from Cuisinart.
Indeed, when I visited Cuisinart's own page for the CSB-79 Smart Stick today, I discovered that Cuisinart does not sell replacement blades for the CSB-79. Instead, the site indicates, one's only options are to either: (a) round-trip ship (at one's own expense) the entire blender to Cuisinart to *request* repair if one is within the 3-year warranty period (which I am, mercifully) or (b) purchase a replacement blending shaft -- which will obviously include a new built-in blade of necessity -- for $34.00, plus the cost of shipping and handling.
I understand that nothing lasts forever -- especially in today's marketplace -- but I'm disappointed to discover that Cuisinart makes it so difficult to replace such an essential part when it *does* fail, especially since blade-failure seems to be a known issue with the CSB-79. I must also say that given Cuisinart's reputation, I'm surprised that the CSB-79's built-in blade goes belly-up relatively quickly (e.g. in my case, after 20 light-duty uses spread over 2 1/2 years; in the case of another Amazon reviewer, after 1 year of daily use for his morning breakfast smoothie).
UPSHOT:
IMHO, if you use an immersion blender just a handful of times per year -- say, to make a dish or two for annual holiday dinners -- then the Cuisinart's CSB-79 Smart Stick is a handy option (albeit one whose blended results are a bit chunky). But if you're going to put the Cuisinart's CSB-79 Smart Stick to moderate use over an extended period of time -- say, to make your fruit smoothie every morning for a year, or to puree well-cooked veggie soups once or twice a month for a year or two -- be aware that the blade built into the unit's blending shaft is (a) not designed to go the distance and (b) difficult and pricey to repair/replace/restore. 2 ½ stars.
The blade has the word "SHARP" imprinted on it. The instructions state: "Assemble the blade with this side up to use the sharp edge". There are illustrations apparently showing the blade in the "sharp" and "blunt" orientations; however, the two diagrams are actually identical, the one being rotated 180 degrees from the other. I incorrectly interpreted the diagrams as showing the blade already mounted on the spindle... a critical error. This would imply it had been flipped upside down. If you would mount the blade ring in this way, it will actually be in its "blunt" orientation.
Of course, I felt a bit embarrassed once I figured it out, but even in retrospect, the instructions are unnecessarily ambiguous. They use the words "side" and "edge" interchangeably and, therefore, ambiguously. They use the terms "blunt" and "dull" interchangeably. They should choose one or the other for consistency. They refer to the plastic mounting spindle as a "sheath". It's not abundantly clear what is meant by the "hub holding ribs (grips)". And, finally, having misinterpreted the illustration, it wasn't apparent (to me) that "up" refers solely to its operating orientation.
The most serious consequence of this is that lacking clear instructions, it is very (!) easy to cut yourself on the "razor sharp" blade edge,... a hazard I can personally attest to.
In any case, here are my instructions, modified from Cuisinart, but with my recommended terminology. (These would have worked for me. The "hub nubs" would need to be labeled on a diagram, which they are not currently.)
"To mount the cutting blade on the plastic mounting spindle, stand the spindle vertically on a flat surface in its operating orientation. Holding the blade ring CAREFULLY by the "hub nubs", slide the ring downward to the base of the spindle. For cutting with the sharp edge, the side labeled "SHARP" should face upward (toward the top of the spindle). For cutting with the blunt edge, the side labeled "SHARP" should face downward (toward the base of the spindle). Then, while holding spindle with one hand, and the hub nubs with the other hand, CAREFULLY apply a slight clockwise rotation to the blade ring to lock it into position. To remove the blade, rotate the blade ring counterclockwise, then lift to remove. WARNING: DO NOT ALLOW FINGERS TO CONTACT THE RAZOR-SHARP CUTTING EDGE. THE RISK OF INJURY IS POTENTIALLY GREATER WHEN REMOVING THE BLADE RING THAN WHEN INSTALLING IT."
