I've had this for a couple weeks now and am using it with iPad Air. I had reaaallly mixed feelings about dropping $90 on a stylus. I'm mostly happy with it, but there are some definite caveats. First, if you're not a digital artist or a rich person, don't even bother, there are cheaper options with nearly the same functionality. Me, I'm trying to delve deeper into digital art, and wanted the pressure-sensitivity of this. iOS has a handful of pretty excellent digital illustration and painting apps at this point, so I decided to take the plunge and see what I could do with this thing.

Ok, so, on the upside: It's very nicely built. Very sturdy, and I love the design of the cap, how you can screw it on the back. The magnetic USB charger is elegant and clever. The pen is reasonably comfortable to work with, and after a few hiccups, I've now got it working well for my particular purposes. The pressure-sensitivity works well with the wonderful Procreate app, and I'm happy with the combination of this device and that particular app (at least at the time of this writing). So, mission accomplished for me. I was a little worried about how this device would affect the screen physically (I do *NOT* have a screen protector) but it doesn't seem to have any negative impact. The protectors are mostly a gimmick and probably reduce the sensitivity and accuracy slightly; the glass of the iPad is built for a certain amount of abuse. So if you ask me you should be fine using this on the bare glass of the device. Just don't get too crazy, wipe down your screen after each drawing session, and you should be fine.

Now, on the downside: While I like the design of the pen, the two buttons, while arguably a handy undo/redo shortcut, mostly just get in my way.Read more ›

I am a artist who does graphic design and illustrated work and for this work I need a stylus that can produce small accurate lines. The Jot 4 has not only met my expectations but has surpassed them with its abilities, from how well the pressure function works to how quick you can choose tools with the buttons located literally at your finger tip. Those features are great but what really sets this apart from the others is the clear plastic tip on the pens point. I dont work for any stylus company's and didn't have great insight to how well pressure sensitive stylus work so I had to do extensive research on the different options out there, the two that popped up the most were the JaJa and the Jot. Spending $100 on a pen was killing me because let's face it, it's a pen...but after consideration of the two the Jot stood out because its not funded as a start up project, it's a actual company that's solvent and the design was not breaking down or being revamped not to mention how many people complained of bad customer service when trying to resolve a problem in the pens tip that seemed to keep sticking. This pen has been well worth it, the money you spend will save you from the frustration you would get while working with a blunt stylus. You will have to buy a cover to protect your Ipad retina, I bought the Moshi iVisor screen protector XT that goes on in seconds with no bubbles and compatible for the retina display, and yeah it's another $30 but your investing in a $100 pen so it's all the same. The two have worked great together, my pen had no problems out of the box and has worked every way it stated it would, I use it on sketchbook pro and procreate and even though procreate is at the beta phase of its application of the jot4 it still works minus the pressure sensitive effect but all together this has been the greatest investment I've ever made.

Background - have original Adonit Jot Touch pressure stylus as well, so some comparison. (Both work on iPad 4, which is what I used to compare):

PEN -
JT4 is a touch lighter, but pen feel in hand is basically identical. Charger, buttons, and cap are identical. Pressing pen tip on screen not identical, feels slightly more clicky and suctioned, but not bad at all, is a touch noisier. Pen tip itself appears to have longer stem and seems not to be interchangeable. Box is smaller, instructions are just as tiny on the included cards.

PERFORMANCE -
As far as pressure levels, yes the JT4 feels better on each of the apps I tested, has a more graceful transition from lower to higher opacity or size, and handles light touches for lower opacity much better than the original, which I already liked fine, but was skippy somewhat. The JT4 is more graceful with the lighter touches from zero. Pressing harder for more pressure feels fine, what you would want.

As far as precision, feels just as good as the original.

As far as battery life, have not been able to compare yet.

As far as connection, the JT4 is not set up in the BlueTooth settings page like the original. Instead, you open a supported app, turn it on in the settings for that app, and then press and hold Button A (closer to the tip) for one second, it blinks green light, then stops when it senses connection to app. Each app displays connection confirmation differently. This must be done for each app individually. (each app is different and cryptic with it for some reason, so it is annoying, similar to the original pen's annoyingness.). Connections can be wonky, much like he original, but once connected, stays connected.Read more ›
