There seems to be a lot of gnashing of teeth as far as reviews go for this product, so much so that I almost didn't order it, therefore I thought I'd throw my two cents in.

I'm not "verified" and I don't have any connection with this company, but I do use reviews to help me purchase a variety of products on Amazon.

Also, I'm a longtime Mophie user on my older iPhones so I'm very familiar with this concept. Personally I'm glad the Mophie folks dropped the ball and didn't have an iPhone 5 product ready for me to buy as I like this design better.

My first impressions so far after day one...nicely packaged like an Apple product, the unit itself is well constructed and works exactly as advertised. I really like the design concept. The case that remains on the phone has a very nice finish that has a bit of "tack" to it so it doesn't slide when it's placed on a slick surface. When you have a long day or need a charge, simply slide the battery on and charge up. Also, contrary to other reviews, the iPhone will charge simultaneously with the battery pack by pushing the power button for a few seconds. The product was well thought out, little things like the fact the battery mounting hole on the iPhone case exposes the Apple logo on the phone when the battery isn't present.

I ordered the matte black case with the matte black battery, the battery has the same matte "tacky" surface as the phone case, I'm not sure how others ended up with a gloss black battery but you may want to be careful ordering what you want. I ordered the purple and white for my daughter, her case has the "tack", but her white battery is glossy.

I'll update this review if my experience with the unit changes my first impression.

*UPDATE*: The review still is accurate after spending time using both of our units. The one note I might make is that the case without the battery pack slightly interferes with the lighting connector hole. It didn't appear to at first but a closer inspection revealed that it kept the lightning connector from pushing all the way "home". The effect was that videos in both of our iPhones sometimes wouldn't play correctly when using the lightning to HDMI connector. Once we relieved a bit of the plastic around the lightning connector with a dremel, it works fine. Hopefully the company will modify the cover to alleviate this issue. BTW, it didn't effect charging.

Case worked in iOS6, but no longer works in iOS7

Since the manufacturer used non-authorized Apple Lightning connectors, this case is no longer functional for my iPhone 5 as iOS7 checks to see if valid chips are used. The worst thing is I cannot return it as it's been out for too long. Any way I can get a refund?

As noted in a parallel review on the same product, the current version of this technology works fine. The seller was very responsive in replacing my first unit which was apparently an early model that had a connection issue. But again, the unit provided as a replacement works fine. The seller says that the connection issue is not a problem with current production. It is very nicely designed recharger and I would recommend it and this seller.

The Maxboost Fusion Battery Case for iPhone 5 was quite the surprise (in a good way). Upon receiving the product I noted the well-designed packaging which included everything I wanted to know about the product without overwhelming me with technical specifications which can leave anyone cross-eyed.
The contents within the packaging include a micro-USB cable for sync and charging the case (more on that later), a user's manual, and the phone case itself.
The user's manual is concise and clear enough for most to be able to understand the basic functions of the case, as well as how to install and un-install the case.
The battery case itself, is made of a black plastic which has a matte finish, this serves a purpose - to make the phone case less likely to slide all over the place compared to the white glossy finish. The fusion implements a two-piece sliding system. The first piece, a basic- protective case connects to the second piece, the battery and connector, via a sliding notch which is located on the battery component. They connect using a sliding motion where the protective case sits within the battery base component making it function as a holster (for lack of a better word).
The Maxboost Fusion does come with a lightning connector built in! So the iPhone 5 finally has a real, dedicated, charging port made by a third party.
Features of the Maxboost Fusion are similar to many other battery case models. The case has an LED power indicator which uses a four-light system. 4 lights for 100% charge, 3 lights for 75%, etc. It also has two speaker amplification outlets on the front of the phone for better quality sound. The aux/audio port is buried deep within the case so listening to music with headphones will have to be done using an apple headset or a similar design to avoid the plug not fitting!
As mentioned before the case comes with a micro-USB cable which can charge and sync the phone directly to the computer without removing the case. This enables users to use either a micro-USB with the case on, or the standard Apple connector with the case off.
Physically the Fusion is fairly small in size compared to many other cases in the industry. The 2,000mAh battery basically doubles the life of the iPhone 5, but Maxboost managed to keep the battery small enough where users won't notice an overly bulky battery hanging on the back of the phone. At most, the case adds a couple millimeters of thickness to the phone (not bad at all). Weight isn't really an issue at all either, considerably lighter than many competitors.
Lastly, the case does not seem to affect the flash on the camera at all. I was able to take multiple pictures in various settings without getting flashback or any other strange effects with the case attached.
The Maxboost Fusion case is well done and a favorite of mine so far of all the iPhone 5 cases that I have come across or reviewed. I highly recommend this slim battery case for anyone who needs extra power, especially if you like to take the battery off and still want some form of protection for the phone.

Poorly manufactured

The product is poorly manufactured as the case is failing and deterating. The manufacturer offers a 90 day warranty, and believe me they have calculated the warranty to the day. I have only used the case ONCE from the time I have purchased it and can tell
you honestly that the case itself it junk, however the battery pack does work as described. DO NOT BUY IT!
