Paint-chipped bottle! Very disappointed in product and the Pura Company!!

I bought the green one for my son, wanting a non-plastic water bottle. After only using the bottle for several weeks, and only washing it by hand, the paint started chipping and I would find the paint stuck to the mouthpiece! I was disappointed, 1) because I had spent almost $20 on a water bottle for my son that was bad quality, and 2) because I wanted a non-plastic option that was safe for my son.
I emailed the Pura company asking for a replacement bottle (not the lid, but just the bottle) to replace the paint chipped one I had. First, I had to send them pictures of the bottle, along with a list of other information. I did all of that, but they required that I mail back the faulty bottle before they would send me a replacement. The amount of time and money they were requiring of me to make right what was their defect was more than I was willing to pay. The message to me was that they don't stand by their products. Buy a Camelbak- they are great when it comes to standing by their products!

I research just about everything that I buy- especially when it comes to products for my child. So, yes, I researched even sippy cups. I wanted something that was BPA free, would last a long time, and would work throughout her many stages of growth. This came up on several lists as the best of the best.

It's a beautiful color. I know there are reviews that mention that it can chip, but we have only hand-washed it so far, so I'm not able to comment on any damage from a dishwasher.

The sippy part is made of a sturdy plastic. It's definitely thicker and better made than your average sippy cup top. My daughter chews on this, but hasn't left even a mark (yet). It has not leaked a bit- whereas some sippy tops will still leak a little when liquid gets into the top.

I loved that I can switch out the top for a wide-neck nipple and then the straw top (and, eventually, buy the sealing disks (to essentially turn it into a water bottle or snack container). It's very versatile. It seems to be made well and (hopefully) will last enough to justify the $16.99.

So that's the end of the positive reviews...onto the negative:
(1) I knew from previous reviews that this wasn't going to maintain anything cold or hot. The canister is incredibly thin- so thin that you can feel the temperature of anything you put into it when you hold it. Yes, you can buy a sleeve, but that is something I address in issue #5.
(2) I'm not a fan of the travel cover. It's almost the same material as the sippy portion. It's easy to get on most of the way, but then you have to jimmy it on a bit to get it on all the way. A hard cover might have been nicer. I don't know why this has a soft cover.
(3) I hate how the measurements are inside of the canister. In the dark of the morning or late at night when I'm trying to fill this, I really don't want to have to turn another light on just to see how much I'm putting into it. It's not even easy to read in good lighting. They're just indentations, not even marked with an easy-to-read colored font. It made me immediately wish they made a clear version or something slightly opaque (so you can enjoy the color, but also easily see the measurements). If you want a sleeve, that's an additional $8.99 (plus shipping) on Pura or $15.99 on Amazon.
(4) I'm not sure about the metal top. It reminds me of some of my travel coffee mugs that eventually get warped if exposed to really hot liquids (or in a dishwasher). It feels like it's not going to make a good seal- it does for now, but as I mentioned, we haven't run this through a dishwasher (and for what we paid, it probably never will be put in one just in case).
(5) Everything is extra. You're already paying $16.99 for this (at least on Amazon). To get additional tops, you can pay $5.49 for two on the Pura website (the cheapest I've seen anywhere), but you also pay $5.99 on shipping. The straw tops are $5.49 (each), and the sealing disks are $5.49 (for three). Honestly, they should offer a package deal. Maybe $20 for at least one of each item. Otherwise, you're looking at around $35 to get a complete set to take you from the bottle to the sippy to the straw and sealing disk. That's kind of ridiculous. It's a sippy cup, for heaven's sake.

At least my daughter took to this quickly, so we're getting use of out it. However, she's fine with all soft top cups right now and there are tons of cheaper ones on the market. As I remarked, the best thing so far is that it doesn't leak- even if there's liquid in the top. That's great, but probably not worth the cost in the end.

For the most part I really like this bottle

For the most part I really like this bottle. We used it with the sippy spout.

Pros:
Not a lot of parts to wash (this is what I like the most!)
Heavy duty
Looks nice

Cons:
The silicone sippy spout doesn't last because they start to chew on it and destroy it
Liquid sits in the tip of the spout after they drink and can be splattered (wasn't a super big deal for us because we mostly used these for water, but wouldn't be great for milk or juice)
We had a little bit of paint scratch off
Kind of looks like your older child still drinks form a bottle if you are using it as a sippy
stuff sticks to the lid really easily and it looks kind of gross (we didn't use the lid much though)

Even though I have more cons than pros I really liked this sippy and reached for it more often than the other stainless steel sippies that we have!

Leaky, Chipping Cup... Waste of Money

After just a few months use, the paint started chipping and it wobbles when I set it down because the metal on the bottom warped. I don't recall dropping it but even if I did the metal should not bend so easily. Now let's talk about the design... terrible. It leaks all over the place. I need a cup I can throw in my diaper bag and not worry about. This one left puddles in my bag every time. Their solution is to insert disks that you have to pay extra to buy... Then every time your child needs a drink, you can unscrew the lid, take the disk out, and replace with spout. Really?? What parent has time to do that every time your child is thirsty? I contacted the company and they agreed to replace just the bottom part of my cup if I ship my damaged one back. Um, no thanks. I'd still have a cheap metal cup that would probably bend and chip again and the leaking problem would be the same. Quality and design, big thumbs down.

My 3 star rating doesn't mean I hate this bottle, I like it, but it isn't perfect. My son likes to chew on things, just like any other 1 year old. So, if your kid has teeth, don't buy this in a color, get the stainless bottle. He has literally scraped the green paint right off the sides and I was worried he swallowed it. My wife and I also have a stainless bottle with no paint and we tend to use that most of the time. This one freaks us out after seeing the damage he did. The paint shouldn't come off so easily.

Otherwise, it does what its supposed to do. It has a nice silicone cover and it doesn't leak. It will fling water out in small amounts if he throws it or smashes it around like a baby would, but I would imagine any bottle does that. We love these metal bottles the most out of anything else we've tried. We put water in it and it works great.
