I saw one episode of this show and I was HOOKED! And weirdly, I can't explain why I like it.
Yes, Abby yells a lot and most of the mom behave poorly. Yes, all the pressure is put on one 8 year old girl while the rest dance aimlessly in circle but I'll be dammed if it doesn't make addictive television! Maybe it's because despite all the yelling and screaming, it's really obvious all of these people are about their children's craft (even if it's for selfish reason (Melissa)). I'm not really sure...either way! I will continue to watch and lie to my friends and tell them I'm not overly familiar with the show.

Somehow this show is addicting. Like a bit of a train wreck. I'm not sure why any parent would subject their kids to this coach but I'm not much better watching it. Just frustrated that Amazon pulled it from Prime.

This show will not change the world. You will not gain anything from it except entertainment. But that is what the show is supposed to do. This is reality T.V. at its most dramatic. The moms are constantly arguing with each other and Abby. Some of them are so backstabbing you know that they are playing it up for entertainment value. In short it is fun to watch the drama.

Yet, there is another element to the show that is more redeeming, and that is the girls. They really are very good dancers, and fun to watch.

The only thing I don't care for in the show is that Abby sometimes insults the kids because she is fighting with their mothers calling them "sneaks" and insinuating that they are stupid.

All in all a good way to waste an hour.

I haven't finished watching the entire thing yet and am only halfway through season two. It's kind of like watching a train wreck. You want to turn away but you keep looking! At this point I am wishing Abby, gruff as she may be, had stuck to her guns. The only thing that disgusted me was her yelling in the faces of little girls about their mothers! THAT'S the part I considered disgusting. The strictness doesn't bother me because the parents have a choice to go where the methods are different. It's bad enough for a child to be a bully but for a full grown woman to bully young children it really terrible. These children are not even teens. Only one is. The rest are really very young and this overbearing woman yells in their faces about their Mom's rediculous behavior. I considered it to be for the camera...to give "drama" to the entire gig. At least I hope that's what it is. . Abby even choreographed a number about being a bully..and then does it herself. Being gruff and stern is understandable...but NOT out and out bullying. And that's what I considered her yelling in the children's faces about their mothers. These children cannot control their mothers! What is she thinking!
The other woman..the Candy Apples coach... GOOD LORD! I HOPE much of that is all an act as well.. The things ALL of these people do in front of young children is...just pathetic. If those little girls are not really crying...they need an academy award!
She is supposed to be a professional and producing professionals but...after the tearful breakdown, sticking her booty out to be spanked...I don't think so. In Abby's words "WHO DOES THAT?!" Maybe I'll save my money from now on. Thinking about it. It's an interesting study of how bad people can act. I gave it four stars because it kept my interest..but now I am worried about MYSELF!! I think I will keep it a secret that I watched this! *smile*

I was curious to use my Fire stick and curious to see the little dancers at the program's inception. I also wanted to see Abby Lee's personality on the first show and the background of the moms' families. What can I say, Abby is Abby right from the beginning. The dancers are charming from start to finish.

Once you get past the yelling and the drama, it's really easy to cheer for this team of accomplished dancers as they learn new routines and compete across the country each week. Abby the teacher is the woman you love to hate, and she plays the part well. You can't help but develop favorite families to route for in this glorious Pittsburg mess! Dance Moms has become my guilty pleasure show.

Abby Lee and the Dance Moms make this series addictive. The relationships get volatile and you feel for the talented children caught between a passionate parent and a passionate dance teacher - both who come off like two screaming nutballs! I exclude Mom Holly who IMO is so far from a reality show personality; Dr Holly truly seems to be the sole voice of calm and reason and I love her for that. Now I also love the loud and outspoken friends Kelly and Christi, too. They tackle Abby on a regular basis. Cathy, love her or despise her, the rival dance teacher (or studio owner as you won't see her teach much) is definitely kept around for the sheer entertainment value. How else to explain a dance teacher schlepping a 6 year old 2 hours to dance classes with another teacher for little more than the viewer's enjoyment? The kids manage to not only learn the choreography and compete each week, but seem to make everthing look sane while the adults are having meltdowns.
Check it out. Definitely a guilty pleasure.

I was a little late jumping on the Dance mom's bandwagon. I started when season 2 was half over on tv. I was so happy to get season 1 on DVD from Amazon! I was pretty much hooked instantly, I love the girls, the moms, and the drama with Abby Lee! I live not far from her studio in Pennsylavnia, so that had me intrigued too! This is where it all started. Season 1 has 13 episodes and comes in 4 disc in the DVD case.
