I like the Dr. Panda games, but was afraid this one would be too 'girly' with a bunch of make-up and hair-product. It has actually been both entertaining and instructional for my 3 yr old. All of the characters are the same animals from the other panda games and in this game they head to the salon for various services. Some of the games include cutting (gnarly) fingernails then filing them. Using shaving cream and a razor to handle beard stubble. Face painting with glowing paint that shows up when you switch on the black-light. Sorting shoes. Painting nails. Washing faces. My 3 yr old has become more interested in some aspects of self-care than before the game.
I'm a 15 year old girl and I must confess, I love dr panda games. But this one was very simple unlike the other ones. I didn't like this one as much as the airport one. I'm glad this was the free app of the day because if I paid $1.99 for this app I would feel like I wasted it.
There are tons of things to do in this game but i would really like to see the kids have more control over which things they get to do. My son likes the shaving but has to endure countless lip painting & face painting before he gets to shave one of the characters. You should also be able to shave them as much as you want before it takes you to a new game/activity. This would keep them from getting frustrated & keep them intertained longer. We all love dr panda, just update so we can pick what we get to do!
After playing all of the full versions of the other Dr.Panda games, we bought this one immediately upon its release. This is the game that led us to go find the developer's website to make sure we are on their email subscription list, to find out about future games from the company. (We recently received an email w/a sneak preview of the upcoming game!!)
Took a little while for our toddler/preschooler to understand the concept of a salon, but this game introduces it fabulously. Small folks can help their animal customers that come for pedicures and manicures; these include giving them pretty nail polish colors and little 'sticker' adornments. There's a place to match customers' shoes on the floor that resembles a simple puzzle. Some animal customers would like to have facials! Complete with little cucumber slices over their eyes! Our favorite is the part where you can decorate/paint animal faces w/make-up then hit the DISCO BALL! for the little animal to do a bit of a jazzy dance. We love it.
I also like to comment about these games that they are extremely optimized file sizes for an app - a few hundred kilobytes, whereas many apps could take up to 35 megs or more. This is amazing for the amount of art and cuteness in these games! Ahh, attention to detail.
Unfortunately this game did not work on my Acer Iconia A500 tablet, running Android 4.0.3.
Not being compatible with every device under the sun, I can understand, however when I attempted to contact their support ... nothing, no response at all.
A simple "Thank you for bringing this to our attention" and "Unfortunately we can't support that device" or "we'll look into it" would have been sufficient.
I have a couple other games from this developer that work fine on the tablet, and my daughter loves them. Unfortunately it looks like if any particular game of theirs does not work, you will not receive any support.
Like most TribePlay games, Dr. Panda's Beauty Salon is a winner. With a variety of customers you can makeover, mini-games, decorating your salon by clicking on various objects in the rooms. My daughter loves the variety, giving one customer a shave and another a mani-pedi, followed by a cut, color & style! and best of all - NO IN-APP PURCHASES!! This game is usually $1.99, I got it on sale for $0.99 and was thrilled with both the price and the content of the game, but even more impressed with the fact that the purchase price included all content!!! That's right, you're not asked to buy anything when it comes to the Dr. Panda games by TribePlay, which is why my daughter has conned me into getting her every TribePlay game in the app store. But, I really don't mind since she's getting a content rich game at an amazing price that is geared towards kids ages 2 to 8+.
Other great games by TribePlay include: Dr. Panda's Garage, Dr. Panda's Daycare, Dr. Panda's Airport, Dr. Panda's Art Class, Dr. Panda's Animal Hospital, Dr. Panda's Kindergarten, Dr. Panda's Vegetable Garden, Dr. Panda's Restaurant, Dr. Panda's Supermarket, Monkey Jr., and more+
I have this game for a week and my daughter has played it 5x and I have had to hard close uninstall and reinstall 3 x! will probably continue w this one as she really enjoys when it works ..but will not buy more from this vendor is a shame since I do tend to buy all available from a good vendor. has potential to ne great if they fix the glitches ...maybe not written for fire. sad
Both of my kids, ages 4 and 6, love all the Dr. Panda games. They are well-developed games with great graphics, fun interaction, cute characters, and full of learning opportunities. Whether it's something as simple as painting and decorating toenails (Beauty Salon) or as complex as planting, watering and picking tomatoes (Veggie Garden), kids really seem to enjoy them.
My daughter loves "taking care" of the children in the Daycare app, and preparing food in the Restaurant app (chop, chop, chop!), whereas my son finds the Hospital fun because it has "disgusting" things in it, such as finding the stomach bugs or cleaning out an ear. (He also finds the nose-hair plucking hysterical in the Beauty Salon app :-)
Besides the actual mini-games, there are lots of things within the scenes to be "discovered", such as touching a candle and watching it light up, or picking up trash and depositing it into a nearby trash can. You can even turn ceiling fans on/off, change bed or chair styles, or make plants bloom just by tapping the items. SO much thought went into the details of these apps. Seriously, you just can't go wrong with any of them. They're worth every dime!
