This is a classic Aussie movie, so I was very excited to see that Amazon had it as a digital video to rent/buy. After watching about 5 minutes of it I was really annoyed to find that they had changed the words to American words/phrases. For example, in the original, the dad was proud of his daughter as she was the first to receive a tertiary education from TAFE, not the first to "go to college". Another example was saying gas station instead of petrol station or service station. Very disappointed at the changes as I thought I was buying the original Australian version that I grew up with. It's still a hilarious movie, but had to rate it lower than I would have because of these changes.

It's a "David and Goliath" story, but told through the eyes and words of a very likable dolt of a character. To quote from the Internet Movie Database (IMDB.com),

"A working-class family from Melbourne, Australia fights city hall after being told they must vacate their beloved family home to allow for infrastructural expansion."

What they don't tell you in that plot synopsis is how much the family loves each other. They look out for each other. They support, help, and encourage one another, and, no matter how dire things may get, they're still there for each other without fail. It's a terrific movie if you're looking for a very funny, touching, enjoyable viewing experience.

This was one of my father's favorite movies. This movie is charming on every level. Sweet characters. A protagonist in a David Vs Goliath type story, it is refreshing and kind, I watch this movie whenever I need a pick me up. It's a movie for optimists.

Saw this movie years ago because the movie I went to see was sold out. I'm glad it was. This remains one of my favorite films of all time. If you have a dry wit, love love and admire optimism, you will LOVE this film.

A simple family show that a loving home is more than a house in this light comedy. Good fun and likeable characters.

This is an interesting and a bid different movie. It kept my interest throughout. I'm glad I watched it. I didn't feel that it was a waste of time (like a lot of "so-called" movies do).

Cute and heart-warming Australian comedy about the little guy fighting the system. Never uproariously funny, but lots of little giggles throughout.
