Solid motherboard

I have this in a custom build using a Fractal Design R2. If I use it as a stock board it runs fine. So far, every time I've tried the OC button it has crashed the system with a BSOD. I have an i7 4770K, and when the motherboard OC function is used it automatically goes to about 4.2 GHZ. This causes the system to be unstable. I haven't tried to do a manual OC, so I can't comment on that. Over Clocking is not something I'm familiar with and not what I really need for what I've been doing so it wasn't an absolute must have for my system. The main reason I got this board was because of the build and stability. It's running 32 GB ram and dual SLI with no issues at stock settings.

Installation was easy enough. The only issue was the CPU cooler that I installed. Due to the location of the RAM slots you have to be careful of the RAM height and CPU cooler dimensions. I went with the Noctua NH-U12S because it's supposed to fit all RAM types and it cleared the Corsair Vengeance.

This product is the best Z87 Haswell motherboard out that you can buy. Everything you've read about it being awesome is true. You might hear a lot of things about the Killer Ethernet being bad but that is 100% untrue. The problem was the board launched with bad drivers on the install DVD for the Killer Ethernet so in a lot of cases, the driver won't activate the ethernet port. The workaround? Go to the MSI website, choose your correct motherboard and download the latest drivers for the Killer Ethernet Chipset!

Just download that latest driver and install the software suite and everything will work 100%.

If that direct link doesn't work, you can always go to Qualcomm's Killer Ethernet product page and download the latest driver suite.

You'll want to download the drivers in the Killer(tm) e2200, Wireless-N 1102, 1103 and 1202 tab. Download the version for you operating system (Either 32-bit of 64-bit). Install and it'll be 100% working!

I hope this helps anybody having problems with the Killer Ethernet drivers and port. I just hate seeing these boards get a bad wrap because some faulty drivers were released. That does NOT mean the board or the ethernet port is broken. The Killer Ethernet by Qualcomm has been tested to be on par and equal to Intel and Realtek offerings on most other consumer flagship motherboards.

I'm only writing a brief review because I built a computer for someone else using this motherboard. My experiences are brief so take them as such.

That said, I loved what I saw of this motherboard with the time I spent with it.

Overclocking was easy and doable straight from the Operating System (Windows 7 in this case), although I imagine you'll need to be careful there. I didn't test it. I would assume there is some safety guards in place for that.

The BIOS was fairly easy to get setup. I still prefer ASUS' BIOS but that is probably because that is what I'm so used to.

I really liked the look of this motherboard, and the tools MSI provides on their website for it are really neat.

Had the case choice been better (Cable management-wise) The cable managing part would have been fairly easy with this board excluding a couple fan cables.

The feature-set is really good, and so far, my friend has been satisfied with it and all seems to be working well.

Very powerful motherboard! This thing was designed for overclocking because it has dual bios and a reset switch on the back of the motherboard in case you mess up your bios you can click it and everything is back to normal. The bios is extremely user friendly and nothing like older computers. All in all if you want a motherboard that you can tinker with then this is the one for you cause its hard to mess it up. Would of gave this review a five star rating butt when i got this the wireless card had a part missing from it which of course was the part that made it work but i got that fixed.

A very solid, well designed board. I used the online manual to set this board up.
Lots of connectors, easy to do with the manual instructions beside me on my laptop.
The CPU and fan were easy to install, not always the case with some boards.
Loads of Sata inputs, lots of USB 2 and 3 ports. For me this is strictly a working system,
and the BIOS setting was very simple to set up. It took to my previously installed Ubuntu Linux 14.04 immediately,
a huge surprise. Be careful with the case that you buy, this is a full ATX at 13.5 inches long.
Everything is black, be in a well lit room.

Beautifully crafted motherboard. As a novice I totally loved the auto overclock switches. I have tried to play with the settings manually but i dont have the time to trial and error to get a stable system so i let the mobo do all of that for me and it does it very well. it is possible to open intel tuning utility and manually up the timing on the processor and stuff. I am running my i7 4770k stock 3.5 ghz) im happily running mine at 4.2 ghz with auto overclock but i also bump it up manually to 4.4ghz and its a dream. I am using an H100i to cool the processor. Great motherboard for a beginner custom builder. Highly recommended.
