Apple notes: Some devices such as the Apple SuperDrive look for Apple-specific signaling and will not work when connected through any USB hub. Compatibility

Featuring the VIA VL812 Rev B2 USB 3.0 hub chipset updated to firmware version 9081 for maximum compatibility with almost all USB 3.0 hosts. Supports Microsoft Windows 10 through XP, Mac OS X, and Linux kernels 3.0 and later. Apple SuperDrive not compatible. Older Mac Pros with USB 3.0 PCI Express add-on cards may not work with this or any USB 3.0 hub. Full forward and backward compatibility between USB 3.0, 2.0, and 1.1 hosts and devices. Not recommended for use with older Texas Instruments, Fresco Logic, Etron, or Wistron USB 3.0 host controllers. Connecting wireless devices to a USB 2.0 port is recommended for best results.

Power and Charging

Comes with premium 5V 4A 20W UL certified power supply for supporting several devices requiring USB 3.0's more demanding 900mA per port power. Functions as a USB hub only, not a standalone device charger: No special charging functionality for charging an iPad, iPhone, or other tablet and smartphone devices with or without a PC connected. Not BC 1.1 / 1.2 compatible.

In The Box

USB 3.0 7-port Hub (VIA Hub Controller), 5V 4A 20W UL certified AC desktop-style power adapter with 6+ foot hub to wall extension cord and 3 foot USB 3.0 Cable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Issue (Almost) Resolved
By Al on January 31, 2017
I liked this hub and it worked for just over a year, then it just stopped working. I thought at first it was a power supply failure, and, since my needs had changed, I just stopped using it. Last week I decided to do a little troubleshooting and determined that the power supply was working correctly, able to deliver correct voltage and current. I opened the case and removed the circuit board and discovered a short circuit somewhere on the supply bus. But the biggest surprise to me was the extremely poor solder connections. There are numerous "cold" solder joints and most others look to be just barely tacked in place. I am very disappointed in the build quality of this unit and doubt I will ever purchase another device of any kind from this company. There is no excuse for this poor quality and it should have been inspected before ever being released from the factory.

UPDATE:
Very soon after posting the above review, I was contacted by Plugable's Customer Service. They were apologetic and quickly replaced the product with an updated model. After using it for a while, I am generally satisfied with the replacement with one exception. The replacement u it is in a black, glossy case and does not have a power switch. The lack of a switch i not an issue for me, but I originally purchased this unit over all the competing units because of the brushed aluminum housing that matched my Apple wireless keyboard and MAC Mini and the top placement of the input cables. The replacement unit has the USB connectors on the front panel, forcing me to use more than double the amount of desk space for the very messy clutter of cables that cannot be hidden from view. With the original unit, all cables ran up from behind and made the whole setup easy to access when changing cables and very neat and orderly,

I would give the new unit good marks, but I would have never purchased it in the first place because of the unattractive glossy black color and the worst possible arrangement of input connectors for my intended use of this product. I will be replacing it very soon and this unit will soon be joining my junk box.
