7-Port Aluminum USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Hub with 20W Power Adapter
We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock.
- Make sure this fits by entering your model number.
- Expand USB connectivity by connecting up to seven USB 3.0, 2.0, or 1.1 devices to any USB 2.0 or 3.0 capable computer. Fully plug and play, devices can be hot-plugged, supports USB over-current protection. Robust 5 volt 4 amp 20 watt power supply included. (US AC Wall Outlet Plug, 100-240V 50/60Hz)
- Compatible with most Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, XP, Mac OS X, and Linux / Unix systems. Microsoft Windows systems should install latest manufacturer USB 3.0 host controller drivers and Windows Updates. Apple Mac OS X and Linux / Unix systems require latest operating system updates for best compatibility.
- Hub is not a standalone charger and will not charge phones or tablets. Apple notes: Some devices such as the Apple SuperDrive look for Apple-specific signaling and will not work when connected through any USB hub. Not recommended for use with USB 3.0 PCI-e add-on cards for older Mac Pro systems because of limitations in their software support for USB 3.0 hubs.
- Supports USB 3.0 transfer rates up to 5Gbps (640MBps) to allow data to move quickly between devices. Transfer rates are device and USB host controller dependent. Ideal for high-throughput devices such as USB hard drives, flash drives, and USB video adapters. Backwards compatible with all USB 2.0/1.1 devices and hosts. Powerful 5 volt 4 amp UL certified laptop-style power adapter with 6+ foot cable.
- 7 blue LEDs, one per USB port. Sleek brushed aluminum matte finish designed to complement high end Apple products. All 7 ports on one side to minimize cable clutter and maximize accessability.

Compatibility
Featuring the VIA VL812 Rev B2 USB 3.0 hub chipset updated to firmware version 9081 for maximum compatibility with almost all USB 3.0 hosts. Supports Microsoft Windows 10 through XP, Mac OS X, and Linux kernels 3.0 and later. Apple SuperDrive not compatible. Older Mac Pros with USB 3.0 PCI Express add-on cards may not work with this or any USB 3.0 hub. Full forward and backward compatibility between USB 3.0, 2.0, and 1.1 hosts and devices. Not recommended for use with older Texas Instruments, Fresco Logic, Etron, or Wistron USB 3.0 host controllers. Connecting wireless devices to a USB 2.0 port is recommended for best results.
Power and Charging
Comes with premium 5V 4A 20W UL certified power supply for supporting several devices requiring USB 3.0's more demanding 900mA per port power. Functions as a USB hub only, not a standalone device charger: No special charging functionality for charging an iPad, iPhone, or other tablet and smartphone devices with or without a PC connected. Not BC 1.1 / 1.2 compatible.
In The Box

UPDATE:
Very soon after posting the above review, I was contacted by Plugable's Customer Service. They were apologetic and quickly replaced the product with an updated model. After using it for a while, I am generally satisfied with the replacement with one exception. The replacement u it is in a black, glossy case and does not have a power switch. The lack of a switch i not an issue for me, but I originally purchased this unit over all the competing units because of the brushed aluminum housing that matched my Apple wireless keyboard and MAC Mini and the top placement of the input cables. The replacement unit has the USB connectors on the front panel, forcing me to use more than double the amount of desk space for the very messy clutter of cables that cannot be hidden from view. With the original unit, all cables ran up from behind and made the whole setup easy to access when changing cables and very neat and orderly,
I would give the new unit good marks, but I would have never purchased it in the first place because of the unattractive glossy black color and the worst possible arrangement of input connectors for my intended use of this product. I will be replacing it very soon and this unit will soon be joining my junk box.

ADVANTAGES
.
1. The device looks very durable with its aluminum case and heavy wiring.
.
2. The quality is reflected on the Amazon.com reviews. There are two with "4 stars. All the rest are "5 stars."
.
3. It is very compact in size. It occupies very little space.
.
.
DISADVANTAGES
.
1. It is very expensive in comparison to similar Orico and Yuba brand USB 3.0 hubs that have aluminum cases and employ vertical inserts for USB devices. They are $15 and $20 less. . . . In return for the extra dollars in savings, you may suffer compatibility problems as experienced by some of the reviewers - quite a few according one knowledgeable user.
.
For the extra money, I was avoiding the compatibility problems of its competitors. On this matter, I was wrong. In fact, Plugable products are not compatible with each other. I connected a Plugable SATA HDD Docking Station with a Western Digital 2TB Enterprise grade hard drive to the Plugable USB 3.0 7-Port Hub and waited. Nothing was recognized.
.
To double check, the hub was unattached from the computer. The docking station was reconnected directly to motherboard USB 3.0 ports - everything worked.
.
Through a process of elimination, this proves a major compatibility problem - an embarrassing one at that. When a manufacturer can not get their own products to work with each other, they probably will have compatibility issues with other brands and other USB 3.0 devices. For these reasons, it is best for the user to avoid this type of product until the manufacturers "get their act together."
.
2. To justify the higher price, the unit should come with ten USB 3.0 ports instead of seven and a longer warranty.

UPDATE #1
.
Plugable's customer service contacted me within a few days and on a Sunday. Based on my complaints, its conclusion was that the unit was defective. Apparently, the product has a 1% failure rate, and I fell into this group. The firm shipped a replacement. Upon arrival, I tested it with every USB device in my possession - they worked without any problems.
.
What a top-notch company! . . . An immediate response was made within three days to a problem, and a replacement solution was shipped within another three days. Any other firm would have "brush off" the incident as a lost sale. To go through the trouble to correct a defective product within less than a week is unbelievable. Customer service like this puts all its competitors "to shame."

UPDATE #2
.
The company does read user reviews and quickly responds to constructive criticisms. For example, a few customers complained about the lack of rubber pads. They were needed to prevent the hub from sliding. The latest model has these features.
.
I personally pointed out the wide cost differentiation between it and two similar competing models. In response, the company cut price by $10 - a 20% reduction. Although the product is still $5 to $10 higher, the quality, trouble-free function, and unmatched customer service justify the premium.
.
The above changes happened within a month.

UPDATE #3
.
The replaced unit went bad on a Sunday at 4 PM in early December, 2013, and an email was sent to the company on the non-function. A reply from the company's customer service came at 6 PM. It requested that I plug the unit into another computer. That was done and the same problems repeated themselves. These facts were emailed on 8:30 PM.
.
On Monday afternoon, a return email said that a replacement was sent by U.S. Mail, 1-3 day service. . . . The package was received within the time frame.
.
The company provided free postage for the return of the defective hub. It wanted to tear it apart, find the problem, and modify its manufacturing to eliminate future defects.
.

UPDATE #4
.
The 2013 replaced unit began to exhibit a common complaint among users. When inserting a flash drive into the hub, all the ports flashed OFF and ON. This interrupted the operations of the devices connected to the hub. Although the one-year warranty passed two years ago, the company replaced it anyway.
.
Three months later, two of the ports went bad. This was reported to customer service. So, another replacement was sent.
.
This is unbelievable. How many other firms would do this? . . . None that I know.
I was initially looking for cheapest USB 3.0 7-port power hub (to save money) but the more I researched I noticed that Apple computer seem to have varying degree of compatibility issue with third party USB 3.0 powered hub. Some had good ratings (four stars) but if you checked the one star and two stars review, the reviewers all complaint about the hub not being recognized by Apple computer or worse, suffered outright failure.
This Plugable 7-port power hub was the only one I found that had no one or two stars reviews. The total reviews are low (when compared to other USB 3.0 powered hub) but when you consider they are all 5 and 4 stars then that is impressive. I believe people are more prone to post negative review rather then good so I'm glad to say my experience have been very positive.
Installation was non-issue. I connected to my iMac with supplied USB 3.0 cable, plugged in the power supply and attached my two USB 3.0 external hard drives and external Blu-ray recorder. No problem at all. Each plug lit in blue to show that power is flowing and the screen displayed all the externals that I connected.
Aside from ease on installation, I was also pleasantly surprised by efficient customer service. Good product + Good customer service = repeat customer.
Plugable may seem pricey but I will not hesitate to buy another powered USB 3.0 hub should I need it. Wait, I did purchase their 12-outlet power surge protector and I am happy with that one too because it can handle four power bricks without blocking adjoining socket as well as having two powered USB to handle charging your tablets and cell phones.
