This thing doesn't perform well at all. I would say I have pretty decent network equipment. This thing is connected to a Cisco SG200 switch and data is stored on a Sysnology DS1812+ NAS with LACP. There should be no bottle neck. My old Linksys E4200 at the same location was able to transfer data in the range of 45MBs consistently, while this thing wasn't even able to sustain 22MBs. After working with support, it somehow has dropped to 9MBs. Very disappointed for an AP of this price. It is going back. I've had it for 3 weeks and haven't managed to get any kind of decent throughput on it. At the same time I think the range is good, it covers my 3500 sq/ft house just fine and even across the street. It may work fine for just internet access, but if you plan on using it transfer data on your own network this thing won't cut it. I would be the cheaper AP model to provide internet access with good range, but this thing just doesn't make sense, 1Gbs Ethernet, with 450Mbs N + 1300Mbs AC... never gets even close to those speeds. At one point I had the unit sitting 8 ft away from me and only managed a 217Mbs connection, my old Linksys through the floor was still connected at 450Mbs. I really wanted this thing to work out since I didn't want a router and I wanted the POE feature. I've tried the stable release, 2.4.5 and beta 3.1.4 and no difference. As other has mentioned, the beta makes the thing run hot.It makes me sad... but my search for a good AP continues, and this one failed the test.Update 10/10/2013I tried to return the AP through PCCableOutlet and their response was Ubiquiti handles all returns and sends me a link for an RMA form. I filled out the form and now they want me to send it in so they can replace it on my own dime. I replied back to the RMA department stating that I want to return it, not RMA but haven't received a response. The only support they provide is through email which takes a day to respond, so working with support is like a two week thing which it has been already. I just want to return this stupid thing and move on with my life.Update 10/11/2013Still no response from Ubiquiti, avoid this product and anything from Ubiquiti. I contacted the reseller directly and they agreed to take back the product, and according to them it is against Ubiquiti's policy.Overall, if you like not having support from Ubiquiti and you may or may not be able to return then product then go ahead and dive in, but I would spend the extra money to get anything else first!

Top reviews from the United States

I was looking for a wireless access point which would provide coverage for my house (~5000 sq ft-3 floors). I was initially hesitant to purchase the Unifi UAP-AC because of the reviews on this site. The other Ubiquiti Unifi wireless access points seem to receive higher ratings and I was considering them as well. However, since my router supports AC, I wanted the wireless access point to as well in an attempt to "future proof" my network, at least for a few years. This is supposed to be an enterprise level AP, and while we're not running an office full of computers we have around 15 or so devices which connect wirelessly, not usually all at the same time. This AP performs very well handling the load we place on it (as it should). I am very satisfied. I have experienced none of the problems of some of the previous commenters.

I am not an IT guy, but not totally helpless when it comes to network/IT basics. Installation and set up of the UAP-AC was not challenging. The Unifi Controller software is not totally intuitive, but is easy enough to manage once you explore it. The controller software CD contained a slightly older version, so I went to ubnt's website and upgraded to the 2.4.6 version. Some reviewers have stated they are running a beta 3.X version, but I wanted to stick with a stable release. Some commenters have noted that the unit runs hot. Mine is ceiling mounted (drywall), and I didn't do anything to leave any extra space between the unit and the ceiling. The unit is a little warm to the touch, but nothing that seems dangerous or out of the ordinary. I have experienced no disruptions/dropped links in the week that it has been installed.

The signal strength is fantastic. I routinely use my laptop on the first floor while connected to the 5GHz network of the WAP, which is mounted on my second floor ceiling. The 2.4GHz signal is still strong in the basement. It covers my whole house very well. I configured the channels in order to avoid co-channel interference from the wireless router as well. I have no complaints about this product. I find that it performs as advertised.

Exactly what I wanted - moderately priced enterprise-level AP for my home use, so i can partitioned different network - guest, server, home, etc - I have been using this model for well over a year now; and if you have a little tech background, the web-management interface is self explanatory and easy to use.
