Different in every way. I love it. Kanye didn't just try and make club beats to make money. He made music for the art. His art. What he likes. He really is trying to change music and it;s awesome. Not for everybody but if it is for you you'll appreciate it.

Look Back in Anger

This is an extremely angry record, though it has it's playful points like all 'Ye's albums. Moreover, this record sounds like one side to an argument with a Kardashian. In fact, I'm almost sure that most of the lyrics on this record are what he would've said to Kim Kardashian if he could've thought of them in the heat of the moment. That's why there was little to no publicity regarding this release; furthermore, this is a testament to how easily this style of music can be produced. You don't need to be talented necessarily, you just have to know how to hold a grudge and have a computer.

Knowing Jay-Z helps too.

(I'll bet Bruce Jenner works out to this record.)

It's no "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" and the album title and some of the lyrics reflect a different hubris more evident on this record than others, but still a solid record with it's 1-2 singles as per all Kanye West albums. The album won't change your life but it is an interesting perspective into an artist that appears distracted and unable to coalesce his personal life with fame and his reputation as a hit-maker as he attempts to lay new tread to old ground. All in all, this record sounds like a teenager yelling at his parents over some tiny, inconsequential detail that had major personal, social repercussions; a passive-aggressive record to say the least.

it's true the more you listen to this the better it gets. Some songs will stick and some won't. I feel like Kanye tried too hard to make an "out there" album. And even though I respect that an artist will take that leap, it seems he fell short at some point. Black Skinhead is a song that gets me going everytime. I loved his sampling of Nina Simone on "Blood on the leaves", and I liked Bound 2 a lot. But some songs like "hold my liquor" are just so blah. The lyrics are weak and the song structure is also. And at some points his tempo changes to his samples are just awful. If this is gonna be your first Kanye album, go with Late Registration, College Dropout, Graduation, Or my personal favorite - My Beautiful Dark Twisted fantasy. They are better in my opinion.

I've been listening to Kanye since the beginning, before he became fodder for TMZ. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was a masterpiece, even though I hated to admit it because of his public persona. I resisted buying Yeezus because of how ridiculous his public persona has become. But I eventually caved in, and although this is not a masterpiece, it still may be his second or third best (after Graduation perhaps). Kanye is not a great rapper, but he is a great producer and knows how to construct a song that is sonically intriguing. He also knows that a shorter album length makes for a better and more repeatable listening experience.- Aaron Widera
