Excellent Alternative to Pelican$$$

Excellent Alternative to Pelican$$$
The Plano All Weather Tactical (rifle) Case 36" (model number 108364) appears to be one of two similar versions of hard-sided all-weather rifle-cases. The other version (model number 108361) is labeled 'Gun Gard' and has colored handles; red for 36", yellow for 42". This version (108364), is less expensive but appears to be equal in design and features. I have no complaints, this will work well for my application to transport locally to the shooting range. I am using this for a Windham Weaponry MPC .223/5.56mm semi-automatic (ArmaLite 'AR15' style) rifle with an Aimpoint PRO red-dot site. The rifle is ~32-3/4" with the Telestock collapsed. I picked out foam for two (2) 30-round magazines as well. The pick-n-pluck foam insert is an adequate media for protection, just not the finished appearance of a solid foam insert cut with a carving or hot knife. Again, this serves my application adequately. After I picked out the rifle outline, I glued (3M 77 spray adhesive) the foam insert to the convoluted bottom layer for foam stability when removing the rifle. Finally, I painted (several coats of PLASTI DIP®) the top of the pick-n-pluck foam to seal it for added stability and to help prevent pieces of foam from inadvertently detaching during rifle insertion and removal. I am not 100% happy with the end result appearance but overall very happy with the rifle-case functionality and build/design quality. Note: I had to search for it but the case pressure equalization/relief is accomplished by a screw located on the bottom of the case...I am planning on purchasing another Plano All-Weather Tactical (rifle) Case in the 42" length as well for a .308/7.62x51mm semi-automatic (ArmaLite 'AR10' style) rifle.Final comment: If I were attempting to travel by air with a firearm, I would probably spend the money and purchase a Pelican rifle-case due to the extra security that Pelican offers with its case design...the Plano is overly adequate for my needs however...

Bought this for a FN 15 Tactical .223 rifle and it works perfectly. Plenty of room for rifle and EOTech 512 red dot sight plus three extra magazines. Pluck foam was easy to size for the rifle, I used Plasti Dip Spray once I had the foam to the right size to toughen up the edges/top surface and it really worked well, The case is very solid and the latches lock tight. Not sure exactly what kinds of locks were intended, but I used two Tarriss cable baggage locks and they work well to keep it secure. It feels like a much more expensive case and I highly recommend it for AR15 rifles. My son liked it so much he bought one for his Daniel Defense AR15 and it worked great as well.

Well worth the 70 dallars spent.Fit is just as pictured.I have an ar-15 16 inch carbine adjustable stock troy forward grip 13 inch rail with a vortex phantom 1-4x scope. All fits with out having to disassemble and there is just enouph room that I threw in another red dot sight and 4 mags. The case is durable slightly heavy but size is more realistic when traveling to the gun range and for storage. It is also locks to keep it safe and good piece of mind when you have kids.Very nice well built case and your not spending money on a name say like a pelican which is the same thing and has the same perpouse but if your about names and branding by all meens go with something like a pelican I buy quality and what works my self not saying the pelican isn't by any meens but it does the same job with out spending an arm and a leg which can go to something else.I will purchase again I will problubly be looking for a larger one once I get around to building the 300 aac black out upper:)

Although I don't really take my quad to extreme places, I am apparently very wrll prepared to get myself unstuck. I found that with a rear mounted winch, and some 50lb of additional recovery gear mounted in and under my rear rack, it could get a little light in the front for my liking. I decided to move my recovery gear up front through the use of an old laptop bag. That was ugly and slightly inconvenient, although I noticed my front wheels staying planted going uphill.

A really nice waterproof rifle case that translates pretty well into a waterproof heavy duty ATV front trunk.... For a third of the price and better build quality than what I could find. I mounted it to the front of my 2007 Yamaha Grizzly 700 using 4 Corrosion Resistant Stainless Steel 5/16 x 1" bolts, large area washers, and nylon locknuts with rubber washers for sealing, using the quad's preexisting holes in the rack supports. Once I mounted it I filled it with all of the junk that I have over prepared with, including: a set of jumper cables, an air compressor, tree trunks savers, shackles, pulleys, bungee cords, ratchet straps, and even two full size rubber wheel chocks. I still have some room left over, and a couple of new pieces of foam that I can horde out in the shed.

I just put the posterior of my 240lb frame onto the middle of this, and although it flexed, it did not break or cave in. I feel comfortable throwing a few bags of fertilizer onto it to get them to the back 40. Plus, I now have a fairly sturdy flat workbench wherever I go.

I went this route, because I was impressed with the build quality of the larger one with wheels (and yellow latches) that I have for other interests, and the reviews for most of the purpose-built ones are less than stellar.

Be aware that this case has exterior dimensions of 40in x 16" x 5.5". I just measured it after I could not get it into a duffel I own. Need to buy a larger one. This equals around 60.5 inches. I was under the mistaken impression that it was 36" in length in total as it says on the Amazon website and the box. This case will be used soon inside of a slightly larger duffel bag within airline limits. . Given the two key locks on the case and the two holes for pad locks (need two locks with 3/4in openings when closed) I don't think there will be any issues with TSA. The weight will likely cut down on what i can take in addition, but at this point I am not concerned. This is a great case if you want TSA security or to keep a firearm safely stored at home. This will keep a family member from getting at it for sure.

Duffels are nice because you can put something like this in them and loose fabric/air space will bring the bag within TSA limits. I've used duffel bags for international and domestic travel for years. The airlines care the most about weight. Do the weight correctly and there are no problems. A gun case inside of a duffel draws zero attention from those that might want to take it off the arrival belt.

Amazon does have an issue with dimensions of cases and even duffel bags. Do your research. This is a very solid case.

5.0 de 5 estrellas Good case, I recommend the 36 inch if it's for a standard AR

Very solid case. Much better than most in this price range and totally adequate for most purposes.

I only had issues with the size. I originally purchased a 42-inch version, but this was way too big. The 36-inch is perfect for fitting a standard (16.5" barrel) AR-15 with optic attached and a few magazines. Note this is the internal dimension.

The weight difference from the 42-inch is substantial (almost 2kg) so I would only recommend the 42 if you have perhaps an AR-10 or a 20" M16 clone. A second rifle will not fit in the 42, though some find space for a handgun or two. Neither case will fit most milsurp rifles such as an M1 Garand. I figured extra space can't hurt, but regretted it.

The pluck foam isn't amazing but it is adequate for the price.

    The quality is outstanding.
    And the value beats pelican.

The pick n pluck foam is a lot firmer than expected, and allows you to be pretty precise with it.
Opens and closes easily, and positivity.

WOW Factor is High! compact + durable build. Not normally a Plano 'enthusiast', however, they got this one right spot on. Fraction the price of Pelican, Nanuk & SKB. 5 latches, 2 of which are keyed lock-latches + 4 eyelets for padlock security. 3 layers of mid-density foam incl. w, pick&pluck - although not my fav stuff but for price tag, a doable comprimise (hint: use PlastiDip spray - to solidify/densify/prolong foam-life ;)

Tough strong quality case. 2 sizes available!!
    - imo this model also looks more 'serious' over the "newer" cheaper (in appearance, my opinion) model AWT2's + doesn't plaster "PLANO" anywhere on the actual case itself. bought 3 at 36" & 42" and still half the price of ONE single Nanuk, Pelican or SKB that i originally wanted. THIS case erases the 'cheap Plano' stigma for me.

    done deal.

5.0 de 5 estrellas Great little pickup
Calificado en Canadá el 4 de diciembre de 2019
Very happy with this pickup. Purchased on sale I wanted something at a good price point but with a decent build. This had great reviews and once it arrived, I could see why. Very sturdy build, great clasps and a nice weight to it. Not a Nanuk or Pelican but it doesnt leave much out and is close at a far better price point. Wish I had picked up the larger version as well. Highly highly recommend.
