My new favorite book

I sat down to read it to my 4 year old daughter because the cover looked fun. I wasn't prepared for the life lessons in it for her and for me. With an engaging story that kept her attention and illustrations you could look at over and over again, I found myself reading with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes as Rosie battled her fear of failure to do great great things. This book is as much for mommies and daddies as their little ones. I may just read it daily.

So very, very pleased I found this for my toddler daughter.

Our two and a half year old daughter loves this book. The story, the rhymes, the pictures, all of it. The writing is fun and whimsical and rolls of the tongue with the fluidity and frolic of the best of Dr Seuss or Shel Silverstein. The pictures are beautiful, colorful and intricate, and even on pages of denser, longer text, where my little girl's attention might wander, the artwork keeps her entranced. If your own two-year-old is one with a shorter attention span, the book will still take hold of her or his heart a little later. If your kiddo is between 4-6, maybe 7, this book will ROCK.

Oh yeah, and the message. THE MESSAGE! :-) Girl Power, baby. But not overtly. Rosie is NEVER ridiculed because she's a girl. Her challenges have NOTHING whatsoever to do with gender. But she IS a girl. And her new hero and mentor IS an iconic WOMAN. And that's what I wanted. A protagonist with whom my own little girl might identify. Awesome. Super Highly Recommended. Along with Ms Beaty's "Ada Twist, Scientist" - another huge winner.

Great Great Aunt Rose... I love you

This book is in constant contention with Iggy Peck Architect as my 20 month old's favorite book. At this age, she loves books with a good rhyme and I would like to believe a great story. She also loves pointing out objects and the page where Rosie has all of her supplies out is her favorite. She can point to everything she knows. The book is also great because we have been traveling a lot and my daughter loves seeing the planes in the book.

Rosie Revere Engineer is a great story and I love everything that great-great aunt Rose says to her when her plane crashes. I borrow her words all the time when my daughter gets frustrated with a task.

It took me several weeks to realize that the last page has an introduction to Rosie the Riveter.

For people that have read Iggy Peck Architect or those that have a younger child. The amount of words on each page of this book is much more than that of Iggy Peck. Therefore, it does take more patience for my toddler to sit still while I finish reading the page. However, I do find that this book has so many more items on each page that after going through the book pointing out items, my daughter is able to say the names of items while I read to her. Sometimes this keeps her attention and sometimes it does not.

Dissapointing overall message.

I was impressed with the reviews on this book, but disappointed in the actual story. I am the parent of a little girl I hope to raise to be a strong, confident lady, capable of whatever she sets her mind to. I thought I was getting a book about how exciting it was to be a smart little girl and build crazy fun machines; I was wrong. This book is NOT about success or "can do" or even the fun of engineering; instead it is 98% about the disappointment of having everyone laugh at you for trying. Sure, the end of the story turns out positive -- but this happens only at the very last page, after poor Rosie is dismissed and laughed at and feels bad, page after page, for trying at all. My 5 year old said in her polite little way that the book "was boring" and she "wanted to stop" long before that -- and I know that is code for things that upset her. What message do you think she walked away with? The author's intended goals are noble, the ideas and pictures could be great with a different spin, but the actual net effect of this book is depressing social commentary about being little and worried about being laughed at. The ending is just too little too late, and, importantly, a bit too complicated for a very young mind to make into a happy note without a lot of explanation. It may be the book is OK for a slightly older audience, but it is not a book for 5 year old girls whom you want to encourage to excited creativity. Other reviewers see the book in a different light, so perhaps it all depends on your child or your expectations. The book fell short for me.

Great mesaage and STEM encouragement for girls

I bought this book for my niece who is not quite yet born, and I will definitely purchase this book for my own children when I have them. Not only do I love the encouragement to young girls to pursue engineering if that's what they love, but I love the message that failure is part of the process, and you have to mess up to get better. I absolutely would recommend this book to any kid!

I love and appreciate this book so much! My six year old has gotten reeeaaaallly into making inventions and is setting up a little workshop in her room, just like Rosie. The message of the book is perfect for her because she can be a bit of a perfectionist. "Life may have it's failures, but this was not it. The only true failure can come if you quit" was something she needed to hear from someone other than her mama. This book is cleverly written, uses language that doesn't talk down to children, is super fun and silly so it keeps her interest, and delivers an amazing message. My daughter asks for it at least 3 times a week. And I still get a little choked up. We also love Iggy Peck, Architect.

This book became dear to me from the first read.
I bought this as a gift for my niece, but made sure to read it prior so I'd get the flow/rhythm of it before reading it aloud to her.
It is SO SWEET, and delivers such a powerful message—I found myself getting choked up towards the end. I almost wanted to keep it for myself! It would've meant so much to have had this type of literature when I was a kid, and that's how I knew it was essential that I read it (and gift it) to my niece.
