I upgraded from QuickBooks Mac 2012 to QB Mac 2014, (Skipped v 2013) and while there are some positive upgrades, there are some, "Features" that are problematic as far as I'm concerned.

First the Pro's though: I like the refreshed options, Income Tracker, new reports, and sales tax adjusting, and honestly it seems to be a bit faster on my iMac than the 2012 version.

Now onto the Cons: Intuit promotes that QB Mac 2014 now has a, "New Left Hand Toolbar" to supposedly let you, "Move around QuickBooks even faster than before." Can you say, "NOT"! It's a complete downgrade in my opinion. It has slowed us down for sure.

I guess the software engineers at Intuit thought that removing all of the menu items and titles from the top of the screen, and then throwing them to the "Left" in icon form, would magically cause everyone to work faster. Good grief. Now you can no longer see descriptions under the icons of what they are. (Just icons unless you expand the menu) I'm constantly hunting in the new vertical "expanding" menus for things that used to be simple to find.

Lest you think you could just go from the new default vertical menu back to the horizontal one, think again! That's not an option anymore. From reading forum threads, apparently this was a complaint in the beta version, and was requested by many to be an option - they must not have agreed.

Now, the unintended consequence of this "menu migration", is that you no longer know what company you're in if you manage multiple companies.

Unlike QB 2012 Mac that used to have "Your Company Name" at the top of the screen always displayed in the horizontal menu, now, there's nothing there at all. No company name at the top, not on the side, not on the bottom. Nowhere.

Hello DigMar,
Thanks for the feedback. The old tool bar had difficulties on some changes of screen configurations that would cause the app to crash. We redid it to avoid those issues and also to adopt Intuit's platform wide strategy. Another reason was that people coming from Microsoft Windows would get confused if there were no windows open - they thought QuickBooks Mac had quit when it was still running.

In any event, we'll try to address your concerns. The company name is listed at the top of the home page, as well as at the top of the Toolbar. The company name can be seen by hovering your mouse over the QuickBooks icon. This is also true when you runs multiple companies. You could also leave the Product Information (under the help menu) window open to see the company name. You can drag it to near the bottom of your screen so that only the company name is visible.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to email me at customer_loyalty@intuit.com Attn: Corie. When emailing, reference your review.

Thanks,
Corie

I'm fairly new to Macs, and I'm definitely new to QuickBooks. This software has a mild learning curve, but I kept looking up YouTube videos for tutorials (even though most of them are for older versions of the program), and I learned what I needed. I kept saying, "If I could do this on paper, I'd be fine…!" but I couldn't see anything behind the scenes. The most elusive piece of info for me was that I could just double-click on any of the items in my chart of accounts, and it opens the register for it. There. I just saved you a bunch of time. You're welcome. :)

The only thing that truly bugged me was that when I had the program opened, but minimized, the green toolbar would remain on the screen, no matter what other program was active. I finally discovered that if I go to QuickBooks (on the menu), Preferences, and Toolbar, there's an option that says, "Hide Toolbar When QuickBooks is deactivated." Dunno why the default is OFF, but I quickly selected it and got exactly what I expected after that. You're welcome again. :)

If you're like me - new to Macs and new to QuickBooks, this version is a great purchase.

Got a new Mac with Mavericks and upgraded from Quickbooks 2011 to Quickbooks 2014. The upgrade was flawless. Even my statement templates arrived in 2014 completely intact. Only had to resort my customer list which took a few seconds and I was ready to go. I am a solo practitioner with minimal needs so I do not have some of the legitimate complaints about features that others have posted. But compared to 2011, I did notice faster performance, more stability, more thoughtful screens and UI elements. Intuit may have a ways to go in the eyes of some users but compared to 2011 they have extensively refined the core code and added helpful touches. Very nice and worthwhile upgrade for me and I can't always say that about software upgrades.

As a long time Microsoft QB's user, we changed over to Apple Mac computers. The disimilarity in the most basic tasks is mind boggling. How can Intuit claim that these two programs are comparable? The Mac version is not in any way similar to the MS version. I would not recommend the switch to my worse enemy . The intuit customer service and tech support are terrible.

I would retun it except for the fact that we bought Apple computers. I will look for another program for Mac

Corrie, from Intuit commented on my above post by telling me that " The Mac Version is not as robust as the Windows Version" see entire reply from Intuit attached.

My reply to Intuit "Corrie" who appears to answer all questions on Mac version.

Thanks for the reply, but either Intuit should state that the Mac addition "is not as robust as windows". Or you should make the Mac version the same as the windows version. What is the problem with that ? In this day and age don't tell me that you can't write an identical program, or is it because you are being pressured by the Microsoft computer manufacturers and or Microsoft itself ?

I have not received a reply, from Intuit, to my last comment above.

My advice is to stay away from this product.

Hi AJC,
Thanks for your feedback. Just so you are aware, Mac does not have the same features and as much functionality as Windows does. Mac is not as robust as Windows.

I was told that the mac version of quickbooks was not near as good as the pc version. I have had no problems switching over. There are differences in the program that take some getting used to, but nothing huge.
