I was debating whether to watch Season 3 because my favorite characters got killed off in Season 2. But now, after finishing the last episode of Season 4, I think I liked Season 3 & 4 more than Season 1 & 2. The reason is that Richard Harrow becomes a more fully developed character and he truly comes into his own. In other words, he becomes a certified badass. There is a tremendous payoff in the final episodes of Season 4. The other interesting storyline is that weirdo Van Alden (the religious guy who whipped himself for lusting after Margaret) also develops into a three-dimensional character. And finally, Al Capone grows up - maturing from a low-level gangster playing grabass to one who exercises judgment and self control. When Capone tries to teach his deaf son how to stand up to bullies it is heartbreaking. I watch a lot of gangster films and there has never been a gangster like Nucky Thompson in popular fiction. He is a frail-looking geek who came to power through the exercise of social intelligence, political scheming and cunning. It is fascinating to watch a criminal who is highly intelligent, intuitive and political. After I watched the final episode of Season 4, I found myself thinking about the character of Richard Harrow for several days. It affected me. It's fiction and they're not real people and yet you somehow want them to be happy. I guess that's a testament to the powerful writing behind these two seasons.

Boardwalk empire is the best show out right now. It's a tapestry of fascinating scenes, characters, and places that are real enough to make you believe that a version of these events happened. Steve Buscemi gives a wonderfully restrained performance in a truly ensemble show. Jack Huston as Richard Harrow deserves to win all the awards. Best watched 3 at a time to make you get into the 20's swing of things. And I can't leave out Michael Williams as Chalky White... He plays Chalky with such a deep undercurrent of anger and makes you understand what it feels like to be an outsider wherever you go. Can't wait for season 4 to be available on Amazon Instant. Every subplot pays off.

First, Hello AMAZON and all of you Amazonians ! Season 3 was the best season yet. It transported me back to a time when the telephone was called an upright, and Blacks and Whites co-existed together as best they could. Season 3 taught me a great lesson; and that is, times have always been sweet, and rough. There's no such thing as a stagnant generation. There has only been CHANGE. I felt like I wanted to take a sip from a bottle of illegal spirits. The time was so real to me, that the only way I was yanked back into the twenty-first century was by feeling the vibration of my cell phone in my pocket. We'll be remembered just as they are remembered. It may take a generation, or two. But we will be remembered.

Binge-watching Boardwalk Empire for the 2nd time and Jack Huston's portrayal of Richard Harrow, the severely wounded WW I combat vet suffering with Post Traumatic Stress, [...] is the most riveting character in that show and one of the best I have ever seen. As a twice wounded vet who also made casualty calls, he resonates with me so deeply I feel like I know him personally. Fantastic job!

Entertaining! The actors were superb, and the sets did a splendid job of re-creating an exciting period of our recent history. One truly appreciates the exquisite attention to detail in not only the homes portrayed, but the costumes, ( that gorgeous silk and lace lingerie ! ) hair styles, and makeup. Beautiful !

I just tore through the list of episodes for seasons 1-3. Now why the delay in making seasons 4&5 available on Amazon Prime? The show has been off the air since October of 2014 ( final episode of season 5 ) ; surely isn't that long enough ?

Although every actor is phenomenal, Steve Buscemi outshines even himself in this series. The era is depicted from extensive perspectives; a variety of cultures and human pursuits. The viewer has no choice but to be fascinated via all emotions...until, of course, as is the slime and sleeze nature of Amazon: you peons may view the first three seasons, but must pay the kingly fee of $35 to watch Season 4 and $25 to watch Season 5, despite having paid an annual fee to watch the limited amount with which their customers are teased.

Boardwalk Empire is one of those series I would put on the "must watch" list. I am well into season 4 and there has not been a time where I wasn't compelled to keep watching. Although there have been some shifts in the story season to season, the theme of the series has been followed well. Character development in a series is critical and by this season one would have a clear understanding of the history. It's clear that the series pays homage to real life historical events. Obviously though there is some creative embellishment which one would expect.

Boardwalk Empire is so interesting, the story, characters, scenery, vehicles, clothing, I've watched quite a few of this series and I'm so impressed how there's never a dull moment. So many characters, some come and go, but always easy to keep up with and keeps me watching to see what's going to happen next! Very well done.

I appreciate my Prime membership, not just for the quick deliveries but for all the videos and music too. I watched all the seasons of this up to where I would have to pay to buy or rent. I hope Amazon will offer these as part of our Prime videos too.
