Not perfect, but close enough!

Let me start by saying that aeroponic cloners are, in general, crazy expensive for what they are. They're a case with a pump inside that sprays water. I've seen them range in the several hundreds of dollars for 15-20 cloning sites, and going up from there. It was, therefore, not without a certain degree of hesitation that I looked at the Xfactor Hydro 28. I'd been looking at building a cloner myself (there are copious instructions online), but when I priced up all the parts, time, and extra bits here and there, it wouldn't really have saved me much money over buying one of the Xfactor Hydro cloners, so I took a chance.

I have to say, I'm glad I did. You often hear "this thing is amazing for the price," or some such, which somewhat implies that you are impressed by something that's cheap. That's all well and good, but it often leaves room for the idea that the more expensive ones might be better. In this case, I would disagree with that. Yes, this cloner is a simple design. It's a black, light-blocking bucket with holes in the top and a pump that sprays water on the roots of your cuttings. But that's all any other cloner actually IS. This one just doesn't get pretentious about its origin.

There were some bumps along the way, mind you. It initially arrived without the white PVC sprayer you see in the pictures. It had nozzles, inserts, pump, bucket -- everything else but the sprayer. I contacted Xfactor Hydro about it and they were responsive, apologetic, and helpful, and shipped a sprayer out the next day. Good service and response can make or break a small company, and they're paying careful attention to that. That's a great thing to see. The next little issue is that, the instructions for assembly are not the most detailed in the world. I mean, it's a simple design, so they don't have to be too detailed, but the power cord for the pump, it says, goes out a notch in the top of the bucket. I didn't see a notch anywhere (there wasn't one on my lid), so I just ran the power cord out one of the cloner sites through an insert. They also don't mention (although it should be obvious) that you want to cap up any unused sites with a blank insert so the water from the sprayer doesn't go everywhere. Not a big deal, really, and, as I said, it should be obvious, so that's not a big deal.

What they DO include in the online instructions are some great tips for cloning, getting good cuttings, cleaning things, keeping the temperature correct and light just right. A lot of great information you could likely find if you scoured the web, but don't have to since it's all right there.

The good parts far outweigh any bumps, though. The water spray is even and gentle, and just right for cuttings. The inserts will hold up to 6 cuttings per insert (one large or small, and 5 small). They include plenty of extra inserts and extra spray nozzles in case yours gets damaged or blocked. The design is small, well-manufactured, and very easy to understand. And most importantly, the price is fantastic. You're getting a real, professionally done cloner here for a fraction of what others are charging, and you're getting a company that's willing to back up their product all along the line.

The bottom line is, I would not hesitate to get another of these or any of their other products. They've proven to me they know what they're doing and they can do the job well, and I will highly recommend them to people looking to get a new (or first) cloner.

I chose to buy the ABC cloner because I realized I couldn't make it myself for much less--and the luxury of having someone else drill 28 holes was definitely worth the nominal additional cost! I received the cloner earlier than promised and it was packaged very well with everything I needed to get started. The instructions are not included in the box (points for conservation!) but they are easily accessed online. The instructions are brief, well-written and easy to understand.They also contain lots of good tips and advice about cloning that I appreciated. That being said, I have never used a bucket system before and will admit I had it out of the box and working in less than 10 minutes--before I thought to look for the instructions. After using it for a couple days, I emailed the company with a general question unrelated to my product purchase. Xfactor Hydro replied within a day and was extremely responsive, helpful and polite. I feel confident recommending the Aeroponic Bucket Cloner to anyone based on product quality and price alone; however, the company's responsiveness and high level of customer service definitely makes me feel like I got the better deal!

This works great!

I read and rely on these reviews but have only written a couple. This is one product that really deserves a good review.
I wasn't sure about trying this, but I needed something that I could just let go on it's own for a few days. What I got were results almost to good to be true. After cloning without a problems, I took a couple of small branches off a plant during harvest and stuck em in this. 2 weeks later and they have visible roots, only about 0.5 inches, but visible. Fresh cuttings (4 -6 inch) from a healthy plant began to show root development in about 3 days, visible roots in 5-7, at about 10-14 days they had multiple roots with the tap root being at least 4" long with branching the entire length. Very viable plants ready for veg.

What I did: Rinse it with tap water, fill it about half-way with tap water, took cuttings and put them in this. I later added an aquarium pump I had with an air stone. I felt it needed more fresh air. I check them every other day as I like watching the roots develop rather than out of any real need. Keep it half full of water and the cutting will root. I use nothing but tap water. No growth hormones, no anything just water.

Plastic for both bucket and lid are good quality and should last a very long time. The lid is like a 5 gal paint lid, only slightly domed, but also has a seal in the top groove to seal very tightly. The inserts seem to be of good quality and should last some time, the pump is a pump, the PVC is pressed not glued and the sprayers work very well. They include extra sprayers and inserts.

It has a smaller foot print then a tray with a dome. sits in the corner allowing my mothers a bit more room. Using 3 - 24" high output florescent lights. This sits in the mother room at about 65-68 degrees Fahrenheit. No heating mat, no checking daily, no worrying if the mix is too 'hot', are they too wet/dry, humidity, etc. It's easy, it works very well, replacement parts should I need them are readily available. Yes you could make this yourself and save maybe $20. You could also just buy the other version without a bucket and use your own 5 gal bucket and save the same $20.

I've had this for about a month-ish. Nothing's died and everything has or is growing roots. Best $$ I've spent on an item to make things easier and I've spent hundreds on cloning gel, rooting hormones, cloning mixes, etc. I can take the clones out and put right into my normal 'mix' and they take off.
This is really a - "Set it and forget it"
