May change your shopping habits

Frankly, it's easy for me to find a writer, a co-worker or a daughter to scold me for eating meat. My rating of "Planet Carnivore" is because it's a thoughtful, well researched essay and not another "Meat is Murder" rant.

As a college student my beef purchases at the grocery essentially dropped to zero. Also, it was too far to the nearest fast food burgers. Beef became a condiment. The habit stayed with me. "Planet Carnivore" urged me to reconsider that habit.

Renton's work shows why we need to cut back particularly on the consumption of factory beef for our health and our economy. Then he gives a practical plan to move forward.

Much-Needed Fact-Based Analysis of Meat Eating

A nice, short fact-based analysis of the effects of rising global meat consumption on our health, economy and the environment.Well written, with perhaps a few too many facts & figures for some readers. Unlike most journalism in this category, he avoids sensationalism, but still presents an alarming case. Renton is a carnivore, and after laying out a perfectly rational case for being vegetarian (that is, not a spiritual or religious case) he remains a carnivore, which is a mystery to me. The book would have been more interesting if, at the end, he spelled out why exactly he continues to eat meat.
