Relatively inexpensive way to make a standing desk more comfortable

While I like having a standing desk at work and at home, there are some periods where I would like to sit. As I've got a standing desk that is only for standing (it's elevated by concrete blocks), my options were limited as my budget was limited. So, I bought the Mogo as a way to give my knees a bit of a rest occasionally, especially at the end of the day.

I've found it's important to have a tiny box or stool to frequently rest one of my legs on, bent, during the day, switching between legs. It helps reduce the amount of stress and tension of standing fully straight for 8-12 hours. However, that's not always enough.

I've been using the Mogo for a few days and while I like the concept, I have some reservations that might be fixable with a slightly more expensive Mogo:

* It creaks. There are plastic parts on the seat that rub against other plastic and the metal of the stand. If you shift your weight much, it's likely to creak. While it's livable, the noises are annoying both to me and to nearby offices. It sounds "cheap." It's not so cheap that I lack confidence in its ability to provide a seat ... it just isn't as solid and well designed as I'd expected.
* The seat is about as hard as it could be. It's ergonomic in general shape, but it's not particularly comfortable for an extended period of time. Here's where I'd like to see an upgrade in particular, to add a bit of cushion to the seat. It wouldn't need to be much to make the seat feel like I was sitting on plastic.
* There are tiny bumps on the seat likely to increase friction. I don't find they help much, and I can feel them through my pants when I sit/lean. I'd like to see them replaced by a grippy cushion instead.
* I've tightened the seat more than once to the base. It's never been super loose, but I wonder if it will loosen over time.
* I need to wear shoes or have a higher traction area for my feet if I'm only wearing socks as the additional lean-factor makes it harder to stay in one place. I was most surprised by that and hadn't considered it at all before buying. It's not a deal breaker.

Ultimately, I'll keep looking for another option. In the meantime, I'll continue to use the Mogo.

Update:
The Mogo now includes a cushion! I bought this as a $30 option last year and have used it for a while. While the cushion doesn't address all of the issues, it makes the seat more comfortable to sit on for a longer period of time. I use it for an hour or two most work days now (where as without the cushion, it was only in use when I needed to sit/lean for a while). I'd still like a better option though. I'm increasing the rating by a star (3 to 4) as they now include the cushion for no extra cost.

Great idea, but hurts your butt and calves. Needs custom seats.

The concept is great. It's super light, portable and really takes the weight off your legs. I have a standing desk and am 6'3" and I'm not at the max setting for it. You get used to the leaning, and it takes a couple of days to get really comfortable. Shipping was free, which was awesome. And 2 day shipping, at that!

The problem is that the seat is just a bad design. It's uncomfortable in material and shape. They should have gone with a gel, rather than the super hard foam (more like plastic). You won't want to sit on it for more than 30 minutes. On the bright side, that's good to get you walking around.

Also you'll need to find some kind of foot rest option. It opens your shins up if your feet are flat on the floor. But that compresses your calf muscles. I've had trouble finding a good, sturdy footrest that can stay at 45 degrees or so.

Until they release custom seats, 2 stars.

You'll definitely want to invest in an angled footrest, as it puts your feet at an odd angle which can tighten up the backs of your legs.

Great product! I use this at my standing desk when I need a break and also for tailgating on Sundays. The seat is decently padded, enough that I have not yet found myself wishing there was more cushioning during my typical 30 minute sessions on the seat. It is well constructed and I love the fact that it can be broken down and put into the included carrying bag for easy transportation.

Only reason this is not 5 stars - the round, rubber bottom (that rests on the ground during use) fastens to the end of the telescopic tube by twisting it on. It attaches fine initially, but as you use the seat and adjust your position, it can begin to unscrew and loosen. I can't imagine that it would come all the way unscrewed and make this unsafe, but still kind of annoying to have to screw it back Not a big deal, but kind of annoying.

Bought this for my standing desk. The idea is really good, however, Its not as awesome as I had hoped. It kind of makes your underwear ride up when you are "sitting" on this. It is comfortable enough, but I find that after a while, I start to get some pain at my heal. I will continue to use it, but I do not think I would really recommend it because I absolutely love it. It serves it purpose, but I would not use this in a real office environment, but for a home office it is ok. Does not slip on tile, which is good.

Made a standing desk practical, broke a few months in

First, let me say that this thing finally got me fully converted to a standing desk, until both buttons that hold the main stick portion fully extended fell out, making it completely useless.
A couple more things:
1. The top always comes loose. They need to add something that locks the top when its fully screwed in. I had to re-screw it at least 5 times per day.
2. The plastic on the seat part is too flimsy, it needs to be more rigid to support the buttocks properly. Add a little thickness or use a different plastic.

I have chronic plantar fasciitis, and were it not for the Mogo seat, I would be so much more restricted than I am. If I stand more than 5-10 minutes at a time, my feet become swollen and painful for days. The Mogo seat makes it possible for me to enjoy so many things, even when I am traveling. It packs up very compactly, so I have taken it around the world with me.
I take it in with me to museums, which lets me enjoy the exhibits the way they are meant to be seen. I used to have to kneel on the ground, which is very sub-optimal - one can't see most of the exhibits that way. And its amazing for hikes - whether in local county parks or in national parks. I rest my feet every 3/4 mile or s by sitting on it, and that lets me get out and about and enjoy the outdoors which I love.
The Mogo seat makes all the difference for me. I'm so gad I have one!
PS: In museums and on hikes, people are constantly asking me about my Mogo seat. I think I should get a commission from the company! :)
