Delicious minimally-processed organic cocoa

This is very good minimally-processed cocoa/cacao.
One thing to remember is that cocoa is like coffee in that the less it is processed, the MILDER the flavor. So this cocoa/cacao, versus "common" cocoa powder, is like the difference between a gently-roasted coffee, even a Kona, versus a grocery-store "French Roast".

So, for those who are moving to this minimally-processed cocoa from the heavily-processed cocoa, yes, at *first*, it seems a little bit "weak". But as you continue sipping, you start picking up the subtle and more-complex flavors.

Some people do prefer stronger flavors, so if you're one of them, you might not be too wild about this. But if you like the flavor of less-heavily-processed foods, I bet you'll like this a lot! Also, since it is less processed, it retains more of the beneficial antioxidants and so on, And yeah, it's organic ;)

OH, I almost forgot - one reviewer was dissatisfied because it left a "residue" in the bottom of his coffee cup. Well, actually, ANY coco does that, because all cocoa is basically "cocoa-bean-flour", much like powdered cinnamon is "tree bark flour", meaning, it is not soluble like a "powdered drink mix" would be. Hot liquid does *extract* some of the flavors, same as it does with cinnamon or ground coffee beans, but cocoa itself is not soluble. I hope that clears up any confusion ;)

I'm an avid baker and amateur chocolatier, but I'd never purchased an expensive cocoa product before this. However, I'd started to have problems with the quality and baking reliability of store bought cocoas. I wanted a nice dark cocoa (dutch processed) because it tasted better than standard supermarket cocoas, but then the baked goods wouldn't rise correctly because of the increased alkalinity. (Flat brownies are frustrating!) Then I bought a new blended cocoa at my local supermarket that tasted just awful, so it was finally time to up the ante and shell out the big bucks for a decent tasting cocoa. Tough choice on Amazon if you've read some of the highly rated reviews, they vary among maybe 3-4 different favored brands with some fierce opinions! This particular product was loved by many but a few said it was clumpy or had no flavor or was inferior to the more expensive brands sold on Amazon. However, there was a limit to the number of $$$ I was willing to shell out so I gave this one a go.

Once received, I opened the pouch and first took a deep sniff. My god, it has an actual cocoa smell, not just the smell of dust like supermarket cocoas! I was immediately optimistic, and set out to make a fairly basic chewy/fudgy cocoa brownie recipe, nothing special, no added ingredients like I usually throw in. Which I then promptly and thoroughly inhaled in less than 24 hours. HEAVENLY. The flavor was so gentle but noticeably chocolatey that I never feel the need to make a brownie recipe requiring baking chocolate again. I'm in love. This stuff is GREAT. The price point is not too bad compared to other organic raw cocoas sold here so I think it's a really nice starting point for the picky baker. I'm never going back to supermarket cocoa again. Now I gotta up my ante on the chocolate chips for my cookies as well.... if anyone has a recommendation, put it in the comments.

Oh, the "reclosable" ziploc top is pretty much unusable, but this stuff was so good I'm not even taking off a star.

OK. This may not be a fair comparison to make but I was purchasing Rodelle Organic Baking Cocoa Powder Dutch Processed 25 Oz. . Which has an amazingly rich chocolate flavor. I use it to make chocolate fat bombs and low carb brownies. We are chocoholics in my home and I don't like all that sugar.

When Costco stopped carrying Rodelle's I went looking for an alternative and since I have purchased many of the Anthony's brand products and have been very satisfied in the past I thought I would give it a try,.
As soon as I got it in the mail, I opened it and compared it to the Rodelle's I had been purchasing. Anthony's was lighter in color and was weak and bland in comparison. Now in fairness. The Rodelle chocolate is -dutch processed-. It is like the difference bewtween Toll house and Hershey's cocoa.
I have now had the Anthony's chocolate in the cubbard for almost a year. I have tried to make a couple smoothies with it and a batch of brownies and was soooo dissapointed in the flavor that I just can't make myself use it up.
I might like it better perhaps if it were dark chocolate. For instance, I don't care for Hersheys cocoa. It is too bland and has a strange acidic bight to it. But I love their dark cocoa for certain recipes.
I am grateful to Anthony's for all the cost cutting products I consume of theirs but I think for chocolate I am going to have to stick with dutch processed.

I use it to make chocolate super easy. coconut oil, this, and honey in the frying pan low low heat and mix it all up then put in ice cube tray or something to freeze in and it's ready in 20 minutes. mint extract or vanilla extract adds flavour.

I use to use Rondelle Bio cocoa until I found this one wich is 10 times better. taste is chocolaty, is sweet and you receive a good amount of product for the price. i use 2 tbsp every morning in my regular oats and feels like I eat melted chocolate. Love love love it.
