Chopped is a great show. I hit my saturation point with it a few months back but that's only after watching countless episodes somewhat religiously. I want to give this episode that I just watched on amazon 4 stars because my pick didn't win, but alas that really isn't fair to the show. I didn't taste the food, the judges did and I have to trust them to pick their preference for better chef.
In a see of reality competition shows this is one of the good ones. Sometimes I cringe with the judges remarks and feel sorry for the contestants but that's just because I am a wimp. The show is a great deal of fun with some of the outlandish ingredients they choose and generally the chefs competing are good sports.
Not exactly another cooking show. As a viewer, you can quickly follow along certain patterns of cookery. The creative cooks are like those fishes that swim against the current. You never know what will happen until the end when his/her peers decide to allow them to go on to the next round. This show will remain entertaining to novice cooks. For intermediates and advance chefs, play along as judges and decide who gets chopped. For show addicts, there's a few more seasons with different challenges and jaw dropping ingredients. If you can't cook, then you deserve to be chopped!
The show is compact, so that, except when there is a contest spanning a week, the competition is over in a single session. So, you can skip from season to season with impunity. Competitors are often trained, but sometimes there is an interesting mix of self/industry-trained chefs.
One thing that really makes the show stand out is the attitudes of the judges - experienced chefs all. They project being really interested in the contestant's circumstances, why they chose cooking, their background in general. And, although the critiques are strict, they are never nasty. They have been there (sometimes literally - the judges sometimes compete in those week-long competitions), so there is an element of sympathy.
Reminds me of Iron Chef. Great competition! I always look forward to what will be in the baskets. I also like to pick who is going to get chopped. I only gave it four stars because I was watching it all the time and now all of the sudden it's 1.99 per episode. Why is that? Is it once they know you like something a charge shows up?
Never a dull moment in the CHOPPED kitchens, from people cutting themselves to those crazy ingredients. Those chefs that are WAY too cocky and those that are truly humble and deserving. I LOVE this show and I always crave for more! I love it when time runs out and someone forgets something, timing is everything, on this show and life in general!
While most of the Chefs are exceptional, the judges are IMHO lacking. How do you not disqualify a Chef who serves uncooked food(fish) only to have him win a cooking competition, thus sending 3 Chefs home who did not serve raw food?
THAN on following shows eliminate Chefs for serving uncooked (raw flesh)?
Our family watches Chopped all the time! It's exciting and compelling. I like how it is also clean, I don't have to worry about content or language with my kids! People are showing courage and creativity and sportsmanship. We love it!
My daughter in law recommended this show and I am so glad she did. I enjoy watching the chefs compete and the creativity they tap into as they create edible dishes out of totally random basket ingredients. It's entertaining as well as a learning experience.
