The Communist Manifesto (Das Kommunistische Manifest), originally titled Manifesto of the Communist Party (German: Manifest der Kommunistischen Partei), is a short 1848 publication written by the political theorists Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. It has since been recognized as one of the world’s most influential political manuscripts.Commissioned by the Communist League, it laid out the League’s purposes and program. It presents an analytical approach to the class struggle (historical and present) and the problems of capitalism, rather than a prediction of communism’s potential future forms.The book contains Marx and Engels’ theories about the nature of society and politics, that in their own words, “The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles”. It also briefly features their ideas for how the capitalist society of the time would eventually be replaced by socialism, and then eventually communism. The Manifesto is divided into an introduction, three substantive sections, and a conclusion.Manifesto states that the continent of Europe fears the “spectre of communism”, and the powers of old Europe are uniting in “a holy alliance [intended to] exorcise this spectre”. Marx refers here to not only the houses of power and landed gentry of old Europethe bourgeoisiebut diverse factions such as the papacy and the emerging corporate world as well. Marx declares that “It is high time that Communists should openly, in the face of the whole world, publish their views, their aims, their tendencies, and meet this nursery tale of the spectre of communism with a manifesto of the party itself”.

Interesting ideas, not practical enough for real application.

This was the wrong book for me, but maybe it will be better for you: I was expecting more of a much more clear cut guide on how exactly to overthrow the current regime in order to create a utopian society in which class no longer exists. He does a great job of providing a lot of examples where other versions of communism are wrong and flawed, and why, but never really gives a decent tutorial on how to pragmatically instantiate marxism.. I almost got the feeling like the substrate of reality was such that you can never eliminate the "bourgeoisie snakes from within", perhaps that alluded to the idea that layering a Marxist structure on top of reality means that reality will always poke through, even after it has suffocated and starved enough?? I followed the author on Kindle, we'll see if he publishes a vol. 2 sometime soon!

It's very light, which is great if you're packing it around. A very quick read, but I suspect that some readers may want the font to be larger. However, given the super low price, it was high quality.

The MacMillan Collector’s Library edition of Karl Marx’s “The Communist Manifesto” includes the 1888 Samuel Moore translation of “The Communist Manifesto,” “Wages, Price, and Profit” from 1898, and Samuel Moore and Edward Aveling’s 1887 translation of “Capital.” Hugh Griffith’s introduction offers biographical information about Marx and puts his work into its historical context, particularly after the apparent “victory” of capitalism over communism at the end of the Cold War, with Griffith arguing that, contrary to popular opinion, Marx remains as prescient as ever in light of the economies of post-industrial society. This edition reprints all three texts in their entirety and fully articulates Marx’s ideas of class and wage warfare. Ironically, this edition makes a nice gift with its portable size, gilt edges, and classic dust jacket art.

Nothing much has changed since the early Nineteenth Century.

Quick read with compelling, progressive logic that's based on centuries of historical events and other facts. Not for people who believe that their fate is in God's hands, that helplessness is a "safe" strategy, or who are comfortable with people telling them what to do. Or, maybe the perfect thing for them.
