Did you ever notice that the cooking challenges posed by Chopped for a mere ten thousand dollars are much harder and more intense than the lame cooking served up by the mega prize shows? Its just hard to say why chopped is such good television. I mean you cant actually taste it, you know? There is always someone to cheer for, an arrogant snob to get served his comeuppance and vicious put downs by the judges. "Chopped" is the old three ring circus with a stove and Ted is the ringmaster. I dont want to watch an Iron chef make something extravagant in an hour, I want to watch a guy who runs a food truck put together a great appetizer out of the leftovers in my fridge in 20 minutes! Now thats entertainment.

I love the Chopped show. Ted Allen makes a great host, born to the role, the judges are always fun, and they never give anyone the pity vote, which you might expect given the stories the contestants come out with. They just judge the food.

This is the ONE cooking show where I've never gotten ideas for things to do in my own kitchen! Lots of fun, still, after HOW MANY seasons?

Not only was this a fantastic competition, but the competitors were all giving back to their community in ways that showed their inner beauty and generous hearts. Whether serving the homeless, teaching inner city kids, or opening up new worlds for disadvantaged youth, each of the chefs had a great story to tell. Every single one of them were deserving of the win, and they were so inspiring and motivating. This is one of my favorite episodes of Chopped by far. I loved the lunch lady chef guest judge. That was awesome! I hope that she returns.

Chopped continues to entertain and inspire in season 17. The tired "reality" TV formula finds an fresh recipe on Chopped. I love the self contained competition of each episode. I'm not sure how they did it, but the producers of Chopped have inserted their point of view. Whether it be sustainability, hunger, access to fresh food or a second chance Chopped champions the food issues of our times. The judges are empathetic without compromising their palates. Amanda Freitag is a goddess. I am rarely disappointed with Chopped. The competitors back stories are most often told without the usual hyperbole that typifies other reality shows. And just when I thought they had run out of ideas to keep Chopped fresh, they surprise me with a new twist. Not only that, my non foodie husband has learned so much about food culture watching chopped. He still has no cooking skills but a seed has been planted. Thanks Chopped! My only complaint is that the women seem to always get eliminated in the first or second round. I want to see more of the amazing and empowered ladies take that 10k.
