Nancy self-published her first book, On the Night You Were Born, in 2005. Her goal with On the Night You Were Born, and subsequent books, has always been to give parents words to say what they feel about their children. Nancy’s illustrations are created digitally using dozens of layers of illustrative elements. These layers are eventually merged to form a composite, at which point texture and mixed media are applied.

Nancy’s books are published by Feiwel and Friends, an imprint of Macmillan. Thus far five of her books have been New York Times bestsellers.

Nancy lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband, a pug and a Swiss Mountain Dog. She’d have a giraffe if she could, but her husband won’t let her.

This book is so heart-warming. I read it to my 11 month old and it has a special message that we should all learn from our parents: the unconditional love of a parent regardless of what their child is; it made cry quite frankly. This is what I wish my parents did for me and what I will strive to do for her. This book is a good way to share that message and remember it. The illustrations are beautiful. I am not an art critic so pardon my use of words to describe it. It isn't 100% realistic, but very close to it that it meets my criteria of keeping things realistic looking for my infant. Their a varied use of colors that pleasing that while vibrant are not too much so as to be too stimulating before bed. It is a good size to be comfortable to hold with a baby in your arms for a bed time story and also big enough for an infant to hold and flip the pages themselves. There is variety to the way the format of the pages which keeps things moving at an engaging pace. Some have a few sentences and gives time to linger on the images for a little, others a few words. It also gives the opportunity for the child to engage when older by asking them a couple of questions. In summary, there is a reason this book is so popular. It is very well thought out. I will be purchasing more from Nancy Tillman.

This is another beautifully written Nancy Tillman book, I think I'm becoming a huge fan of them :) In this book, "I'd Know You Anywhere, My Love," a mother is talking to her child about how she would always recognize her little one, even if they decided to be very different someday. As different as a fox, or a rhino. Those are symbolic things really. What a child might worry about as they grow older is things like "Will you still love me if my religious views change and become different from yours?" or "Will you still love me if my hair changes color, or if I dye it green?" Both questions my daughter has asked me, and the answer to them is yes, a resounding yes, I will still love you- you the right to choose, and your choices don't have to be my choices. And that is the answer in this book, and it's an answer I think every child deserves to hear, but some unfortunately do not.

As with the other books of hers I own, the prose is beautifully expressed...I love it!

The best books you can buy for a child, young or grown, or anyone who really means the world to you. Growing up being bounced around from foster home to foster home and back with my parents and back into foster homes, I never got to hold on to anything for long. I always loved reading and escaping into books though. We wanted to be sure our boys always have books at arm's reach, books that say something real, that they can always hold on to....even if one day, God forbid, we aren't there to read the books to them. Her stories read like songs, the message is always clear and beautiful and the artwork is stunning! We can't wait to have them all and almost do. Nancy better get to work!

I love this book and was excited to find it as a board book for my kids. It loses one star because the edges were a bit dinged up. It isn't bad enough to send back because it's definitely still readable, and likely it would have gotten that way soon enough anyways because, well, kids. But I would not have been comfortable giving it as a gift because the banged up edges at first glance almost made it look used. Other than that it's great.
