  • Allow mounting to any flat surface or mount directly and securely onto US standard single/dual wall box
  • Airbase is designed to optimize the 11n/ac speed, so the Apple Extreme and Time Capsule can be facing in whichever direction on any flat surface to enhance the data speed and greatly extend the range.
  • High quality aluminum and PC materials deters theft, and provides ultra-safe ceiling mounting, without having any negative impact on the WiFi performance. The AirPort Express/Time Capsule antennas are placed at the highest point [on sheet aluminum shielding] within the plastic housing, far above the level of Airbase.
  • Our AirBase has the capability for the addition of a Polycarbonate security cap (sold separately as our AirGuard product), providing security for mounting in public spaces in addition to enabling mounting from a ceiling position
  • Polycarbonate security cap: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L5JFW4E

I received a free mount from the company that sells these on Amazon, in exchange for an honest review.

First off, I will explain what I used before I had this mount:

I needed to mount my Airport Extreme (latest generation, "tower" style) in a common hallway to maximize my wi-fi range.

I found a very inexpensive aluminum "L" shaped shelf at Ikea that I screwed into the wall above the crown molding, and placed the Airport Extreme on the shelf, then plugged in the necessary connections via a small hole through the wall leading from my office to the hallway.

This initial "Ikea cheap shelf" installation method worked fine but it was kind of ugly.

I was very pleased when Giros offered to send me their mount to install and review.

First off, I received the mount only. There is a companion "security cap" that is sold separately and is supposed to secure the Airport Extreme in public areas to deter theft.

I certainly don't need that security at home, but the cap is needed if you intend to ceiling mount the unit or wish to wall mount-install close to the ceiling

The downside to the wall mount method - without the cap - is the mount must be low enough on the wall to then insert the Airport Extreme FROM ABOVE (you have to screw the mount to the wall before you insert the Extreme).

My desired mounting location remained above the crown molding -- if installed below this, it would be smack dab in the middle of my wall and more unsightly than it was with the Ikea shelf.

So, I did an unconventional installation -- I installed it sideways (above the crown molding) and slid the Airport Extreme in from the right side.

I will caveat this review with the fact that I am type-A and am very rarely fully satisfied with anything.

Overall, this product is well designed and addresses a problem for which no one else has (there is one competitor for wall-mount, but none for ceiling-mount). The metal is solid, it looks Apple-eaque, and it's fairly versatile. I did have some issues with this though, maybe this will be helpful to someone else to know ahead of time:

1. I used to own the previous version of the Apple Time Capsule which was a different form-factor. I used to use the H-Squared polycarbonate ceiling mount. It was a wonderful product. Well, I wanted this new Apple Time Capsule to be ceiling mounted as well, in the exact same spot. H-Squared offers a mount for the new form-factor – and I would have been a return customer – but it serves only as a wall mount, not a ceiling mount like I needed. Giros' Airbase is the only other mounting hardware I could find, and it just so happened to support ceiling mounting. However, the problem is that the polycarbonate attachment ("called the 'Security Cap'") is a separate product which is not even commercially available yet! Drat!

Giros – I can respect that you want to get the metal component to market so you can make some cash while you get the other component ready, but I just want you to know that as a consumer, it really sucks that you sell that piece separately. As a consumer, it feels like you're price gouging me. My last ceiling mount cost me only $30 total. Once this piece comes to market, how much will it cost? Another $20? Plus more shipping and tax? I would strongly suggest you sell 3 different versions of your product: the wall mount, the security cap, and one with both together at a discounted price.

I want to give this item four stars but let me tell you why I won't. Its pricey, and for that price I would expect the product to be well finished and amazing in all aspects. The aluminum needs to be a little thicker as its too easy to bend. When mounting a Time Capsule in it the weight just slightly bends the base, which makes me wonder if the base will bend further over time. The inside edges are also rough and tend to snag, when dropping the Time Capsule into it, it scratches the device.

It would also be nice if the mounting holes lined up with a rack mount systems. It was easy enough to drill a hole though.

All in all, I am glad I bought the product and would again.

I installed this baby so the AE sits horizontal. Needed to make a little incision into the back of the bracket, but it turned out exactly how I wanted it. Check out the pics. Since I have a lot of concrete walls in my house, the signal going to the back (which is the bottom of the AE) is a little weak. But I installed an Airport Express about 8 feet behind the concrete wall I mounted the AE and got great coverage now.

I recently went through a project of centralizing my router (New gen AirPort Extreme, obviously) to the middle of my home for best coverage, where as before it was on the far side of my home and performance suffered on the other side of the house, mostly for legacy G but sometimes N adapters. All of my media is hardwired for performance but even in non critical tablet surfing it's annoying. Anyways, the middle of my home is a hallway and putting a table of some sort in there wasn't an option so after some light research I ordered this from the mothership.

I honestly can't think of anything that would make this mount better. I mounted mine right side up, but if you need to mount it upside down or sideways this mount supports that and you just need to get an optional piece from the company to support that. I like that it maintains a sleek style and it doesn't seem to hamper reception, and being able to locate it in the middle of my home has made overall wireless network performance much stronger.
