The film captures the essence of the novel (1992 Booker Prize) with a fantastic cast and cinematography. Romance and adventure weave a storyline that can but capture the spirit of this genre. No lengthy review is needed. Complex with the beauty seldom found in a film's interpretation of a novel. 'The English Patient' follows the paths of those brought together before and during the Italian Campaign of World War II. The relevance of the title comes at the end. Desert archeologists before the war, caught up by the events of war and those introduced before victory. Flashbacks tell the story in a way that flows effortlessly. Recommended as a classic that includes all that one might anticipate. This is a film worthy of one's interest and time!

I love this movie. I've seen in many times (Yes, lost count) and I am always intrigued by it again and again. Now, watching it this last time I don't really like the ending of it.It sort of left me 'blah', but nevertheless, it is a good story and was wonderful movie. And although it depicts a time before WWII, it also more so depicts a time when movies were made to tell wonderful stories and were unique and dynamic with truly qualified actors - unlike today's movies.

The movie is an amazing love story ... that is told through a well thought out set of flashbacks .... that will all make sense in the end (no spoilers here ... sorry). If you want to invest 3 hours (yes it is a loooonnnnngggg movie) in an "epic" love story ... then you better get at it ! Look no further.

The production elements are fantastic ... the desert scenes, the historical war scenes, the love story(s) that are at the core of this movie.

This movie is now in my top 10 all time greats.

Great Book by the great writer Michael Ondaaje(spelling) & super great movie- photography,music,acting story all just great -the music is by a famous Hunarian folk singer & she is wonderful-romantic,sad,war, glorious vistas, & Ondaaje's words from heaven-such a lyrical poetic writer- I love the scene where they are talking about wind & sand storms, even better in book- & that one scene in marvelous cave……watched when came out over & over again-now the same have on Kindle fire 8.9 HD- beautiful -highly recommend

If you are attracted to Ralph Fiennes, then watch this! László Almásy is absolutely one of the most charming characters he has ever played. As for me, I am increasingly in love with all the actors and characters in The English Patient. My favorite person in the movie is Kip, the Sikh soldier who enjoyed condensed milk...

Utterly breathtaking. Exotic, tapestry-like backgrounds, this picture is resplendently textured, with sensual surfaces hidden in the sunbaked Tunisian desert.

I envy anyone who is seeing this film for the first time. This film unravels a story of love, loss, betrayal, and tragedy so skillfully, that I was completely "blown away" after seeing it for the first time. I think that this is definitely, a "chick flick." It is probably a little slow moving for the taste of many viewers. However, if you have the attention span to stay with this movie to the end, you will be well rewarded. The cinematography is beautiful. The acting is excellent. I highly recommend this movie.

One of my favorite movies and books. The story is a classic triangle love drama set against the backdrop of WWII. Phenomenal actors. This is my favorite role for Kristen Scott Thomas. She portrays a character with a broken heart expressed in every detail, down to the lines of her face.
