Although I fast - forward through the gross sections (My favorite episodes are bug-free), this has been a great show for me (all seasons). It helps me not only compassionately understand others, but also to see some of my tendencies to hold on to things and why I do it. I went through a time after a divorce where I did a little of this, walling up my bedroom with clothing to subconsciously keep people out and feel safe after being alone after so many years. Although I do not have a house like these people and am happily remarried, I have a few rooms with too many things I use as storage that could turn into a problem and this helps me stay on top of this aspect of myself. So, I watch this show and emphasize with the people who usually have had some trauma or traumas and can understand why they are hoarding. And this show motivates me to get off the chair and start cleaning up! I have made several trips to the Goodwill since starting the series as it just isn't worth the loss of space to hold on to things.

I like this show, but not as much as before. It seems every couple of seasons they try to change the show. I don't even consider most of these people "hoarders", I consider most of them PIGS! Having garbage, feces, rotting food, bugs & rodents is just plain nasty, not hoarding. There is no excuse for using your house as a huge garbage can! As far as the show goes, they seem to only clean one or two rooms, but there are always boxes & boxes of stuff stashed in other rooms & rooms not cleaned. They need to actually do an entire house & then check back later to see what happened. Still like watching, just not as much as before.

makes me want to clean my house more, although i think they make the people crazy by asking them to do so much in two or three day, its not that easy to toss something that you have had for all those years, especially if it belong to a deceased family member, think they could be a little more sensitive.

Equal parts pathos and bat-sh*t crazy, TLC's foray into the lives of hoarders successfully walks the line of insight and compassion versus exploitation. Dr Becky Beaton shines while understanding who the real "stars" are.

Always look forward to the next episode! Quite an eye opener, seeing how some people live and hearing about the life issues that got them started hoarding. But, it's wonderful when they are motivated to change their behavior and take advantage of the help that is offered! Personally, I most enjoy the episodes where family dynamics are improved and reconciliations take place!
