These are fantastic units for getting full GPU performance from a headless Mac mini and other servers. They are built solid. We have hundreds of these (and the non-4k version) running at Macminicolo and they really help the screen sharing and video rendering performance.

Wow, this little jewel is fabulous! Works perfectly on a Late 2013 Mac Pro running "headless" (remotely controlled with no local monitor plugged into the computer).

Makes a wide range of display options (from 640 x 480 up to 3840 x 2160) for the headless computer available to the controlling computer. I am able to switch these display resolutions remotely with no "black screen" issues -- for me, this has solved the "black screen" display issue I experienced when attempting to run my headless Mac Pro (will work on the Mac Mini, as well, according to other reviewers). This product has also substantially increased the responsiveness of the remote display since the display emulator allows the headless computer's video acceleration to be utilized.

So glad I made this purchase. Perfect!

I previously bought the regular "fit-Headless" HDMI plug, which did not support the resolution I needed for a virtual extended display (it did not support 1366 x 768). This was one does, along with many other "standard" resolutions. I am currently using VNC software on both my chromebook and Linux Mint laptop. The chromebook has VNC viewer for Chrome installed and is set up to be used as an extra display for main laptop. Much more convenient than lugging around an extra monitor.

This product does not depend on operating system as it is hardware driven. Thus I could use this setup on Windows and Mac laptops as well too!

kinda finicky. has issues keeping the same resolution, sometimes. I wanted to use it to have a 4k remote desktop session on my Mac Mini from my desktop. it never really worked, but that's at least partially my fault. i didn't think to look up my Mini's max resolution (2560x1600). 4k only worked once, and at something like 5-10 FPS (again, probably something I didn't think to consider). oddly, it wouldn't work at all at 1440p. at 1080p it mostly works.

I have a headless Intel NUC5i5RYH compact computer running Windows 7, and I use VNC to access the graphical user interface. When I unplugged it from the display monitor and rebooted, it came up in low res mode and refused to run at a higher resolution because it does not detect a display. Annoying.

Then I discovered this ingenious gadget which neatly solved the problem. The NUC (stupidly) uses a mini-HDMI, so I had to get an adapter. Then I plugged it in, rebooted, and it came up in 1924x1600 mode without the need for a real display to be plugged in.

I opted for the 4K model even though it's a bit overkill, just for future needs. This is a cheap and convenient solution to a weird problem. By the way, it's not just Windows that has this problem when you run the computer without a display. I encountered the same issue with two flavors of Linux (Ubuntu 15 and OpenSuse 13.1).

This little device is really awesome!

I have a computer that I access almost exclusively through VNC. I have a small monitor connected to it that gives me a small amount of desktop space, but I wanted more. I connected this fit-Headless 4K to the secondary monitor connector on my video card. I was able to expand my desktop area by a lot! This was immensely helpful!

This works great if you need your computer to think you have a high resolution monitor on it, but don't really need more physical monitors!

OK, this thing is a total piece, and I'll be returning it immediately. This is just goofy market segmentation at its worst. These guys appear to sell three adapters: one for 1080p and below, one for up to 4k (this one) AND, this is the kicker, they produce a third adapter, the fit-headless gs. Now, as far as I can tell, this thing is just an edid chip on an hdmi plug. That's it.

This particular adapter will, as advertised, go up to 4k resolution, no problem. What they fail to mention (and what I wish I'd seen in the reviews that mention it), is that this adapter will only go up to 15Hz refresh rate at 4k. Which, is pretty much pointless and useless. I'm not so much annoyed about that fact as I am that they don't bother to mention the refresh rate limitation anywhere in the product description. So, they charge at $5 price bumps for products that, so far as I can tell, are just differently-programmed edid chips in each of the three products, and they fail to actually explain the limitations of each. I'll change my review when they clearly state the limitations of the product on this page, until then, no go.

And, if you're like me, and using this for a headless (sort of) gaming rig, and you need 4k@60Hz, you apparently need the fit-headless gs model, that one will (according to the manufacturer's website) do 4k@60Hz.

Connected to "Mac mini Late 2014" directly into the HDMI port The connector gets recognized in Display profile as "fitHeadless4K".
Resolution up to 3840x2160 is selectable
Works nicely with Share Display on MAC doing screen share with the Mac Mini.
Just make sure you push the device in all the way.
