Some say I have a heavy hand and a little rough with handling things so I don't know how long this will last with my use. I have to remember to unclip the amplifier before removing the headband over my helmet or to lower them on my neck to remove helmet. the wire connecting the amplifier and headband is short so I sometimes end up pulling the amp off my collar. I don't know how many times I will be able to do that. gave it a star back because I like them regardless of my issues with its current design flaws.
Edit1: my set is not very durable. Only used them for a couple of rides and the left pod detached during a bike ride. I know some of the paths I ride are bone jarring at high speeds due to uprooted asphalt, but I expected a set of headphones to hold up. Knocked a star off from my original 4 star due to this issue. Hopefully warranty will cover it because I still need to use them for cycling. Will edit again when I get an answer.
I use bone conduction headphones when I go cycling. My cheap Airdrives headphones stopped working so I started looking for more airdrives. It seems that no one sells them anymore or they went out of production. I know they weren't the best but at least I had something to listen to while still being able to hear everything around me. So I researched for other products and these popped up, no wonder airdrives are extinct, these rock.
They aren't really adjustable. so if you have a larger head it might not fit properly in front of the ear and if you have a smaller head you have to get used to something hanging at the back of your neck. (edit2: center of speaker pod to center of speaker pod is 33cm. my tragus to tragus is only 29cm so it hangs off the back of my neck)
I put these on after my helmet so it keeps the helmet straps snug. The wire is on the short end about 16" from band to amp and about 32" from amp to plug. the amp is too heavy to just let it hang if you are being active and if you are going to use the mic for phone calls it needs to me mounted near your mouth. Since I'm using this for cycling I attach it to the collar of my jersey on the left side and attach my mp3 to the right and tuck the wire in my jersey. The speaker pods that rest in front of and on the tragus doesn't sit well on my face but with repetitive use it should conform to my face. Even so it sounds great! you wont get the deep bass response like over the ear headphones but it actually performs well due to the inline powered amplifier. Crank the volume high enough and the bass makes the pods vibrate on your face..It blows the airdrives to bits. It can be loud enough that it will eliminate wind noise but then you lose situational awareness. If you are going to use them at that volume you might as well use regular ear buds.
The sound is okay, not great but not terrible. If you have them turned up and are listening to anything with any level of bass they will rattle/shake and tickle your ears, it kind of ruins the whole experience which is a shame bc other than that I like the way they sound and work. They are also a but on the quiet end so don't expect to get these and rock out to anything or have your call volume be loud enough to hear over a lot of external noise. Also, I personally wouldn't call these bone conduction headphones, more like flat headphones that sit in front of your ears instead of over or in them. Other people can fully hear whatever it is you are listening to so if it is a phone call it is no longer a private conversation, and when you raise them off your high cheek bone (which is where they lay) you can hear still hear them clearly just a little quieter than when they are on. SO yeah, I wouldn't call them bone conduction as you can get the same effect by wearing any headphones on those bones instead of over your ears.
One of my biggest gripes is the fact that you have to charge them, it's such a bummer especially bc these are hard wired and not Bluetooth (yet another charging cord to add to my already overcrowded collection). All other hard wired headphones use power from the device they are plugged in to, if these did that they would be infinitely better. It would also be great if you didn't have to turn them on with a switch, they should be like every other pair of wired HPs in that once you plug them in to your device they are on and working.
All in all they do what they are supposed to do and the tech is different and pretty cool, imho. They shouldn't have to be charged or turned on with a switch, just an extra hassle and you are limited to listen time by battery life. Sound quality is average at best and they do rattle a lot when listening to any kind of bass, which is annoying and does tickle your ears a fair amount. They could be designed to fit around your head better, as they are they stick out way too far in the back, for my liking and comfort. Probably a little over-priced given all these issues, should be more around $30, tops, instead of $50.

The control module that can clip onto your shirt is handy, from this module you can answer calls if connected to a phone (fat chance of that happening, I'm out running there's no way I'm interrupting my run to talk to someone!) and I think there's a little microphone in this unit so the caller can hear you. You can also adjust the volume up and down, pause the track and turn the headphones on and off. There is also a plug point where the charging cable can be plugged in and connected via USB for charging. The headphones come with a hard case zipped storage box which is great for protecting them when travelling inside my rucksack to a race.
There is some sound leakage with these headphones that you should be aware of. As much as I enjoy my music I appreciate that not everyone around me wants to listen to it. In an environment where there's a fair bit of low level background noise (for example a running race or running alongside a road with traffic noise) it is fine and that drowns out the leakage, but if you want to listen in a quieter environment (an office for example) then be aware people around you will hear your music even when turned down to quite a low volume and that I should imagine would be very annoying for them.
The last thing I'll mention is cost. As headphones go they are expensive, the most expensive set I have purchased and I'm still debating with myself if they are good value for money. Initially I didn't think so but having been out a few times with them now for a run I really am appreciating how I can listen to music but still feel confident in my awareness of sounds around me. If they prove to be long lasting and reliable then I think they will be worth the cost.
They are a bit strange to use at first and get used to but once I did I no longer noticed the difference.
Pros
-lightweight comfortable fit.
-microphone works well.
-battery lasts several hours +
-allow you to hear normally if sound level correct. See cons.
-solid carry case. Would protect headphones well.
-good fit. They are not likely to come off head even when running.
Cons
-control unit on device will control iPhone music tracks but won't start Siri.
-careful positioning required. I found in wrong position the vibration would irritate or tickle my ear.
-if you have sound too loud you drown out other noises just like in ear headphone.
I wear them mainly when commuting to work on the London underground. I wear ear plugs to block my ears, then use these to play music/podcasts. But note that when the train is in motion in a tunnel (which is most of the time unfortunately) - I cannot hear the music/podcasts without cranking the volume to almost max - which I have not stopped doing as it can't be good for your hearing. You can damage your inner and middle ear just as badly with conduction headphones that are turned up too loud (as a regular pair turned up too loud).
You will be disappointed if you're expecting £50+ audiophile headphone audio. But considering that the sound is going through your cheeks, it's pretty amazeballs.
UPDATE:
I noticed that if you put earplugs in when using these - it massively boosts the volume - I suspect this is because the earplugs create some kind of echo chamber between the eardrum and the earplug - which picks up on the bone transmissions?
Also - the battery does seem to last for ages - and it charges super fast.
Does make you feel like you have your own theme music playing in the background everywhere you go - it's slightly surreal.
Couple of annoying things though:
1. The headband is not adjustable - but you do kinda get used to it after a while.
2. The power on off module - it is positioned awkwardly - you are limited to arm, neck or chest for clipping it. Also, the clip is not spring loaded - so you need to bunch up a bit of fabric and shove it under the clip. I usually just end up clipping it onto my neck line.
