Works for me, kid tracking and all. Some tips...

I hesitated to buy this game after reading about all the issues people have apparently had with the camera and tracking children. On first use, I experienced some of that as well which is not terribly surprising as I'm a very tall man and my child is only 5.

However, with a few adjustments I got it working great...

1.) I positioned the camera high up, about 6.5ft off the ground on the top edge of a wall mounted TV. The camera is angled down slightly at perhaps 10 degrees giving a view not unlike a security camera would.

2.) When starting a new song and detecting dancers I allow myself to be detected first then have my son move slightly back or forward from where I'm standing until he shows up. Once he's detected, he doesn't need to stay in the exact same spot. The sweet spot seems to be about 8ft back from the camera.

3.) I don't think there's anything exceptional about our lighting, it is a well light room with 6 recessed sockets using the Philips 60W equivalent LEDs.

Camera cannot track children. Same problem as 2014 edition.

The same issue that was present in Just Dance 2014 is still present in Just Dance 2015.

The game is almost completely unable to pick up children using the PS4 camera.
No other games or the main OS have this problem at all. It is just the Just Dance games.

It is pretty much unplayable with children using the PS4 camera. You have to stand in front of the child, slowly lower yourself so that the game tracks you down, then slowly sneak behind them so it switches over to them, then try to sneak off camera without it picking you back up. Beyond just that if you have 2 children, you have to tell them they cannot dance like seen on screen because the abysmal detection will merge them into one when they cross each other, and then once they separate again many times it will stop tracking one, or both. If an adult get anywhere even remotely in the range of the camera as well it will instantly stop tracking a child and move over to the adult. This can be seen with pretty much every single community video that is posted that has a child, they are using the Playstation Move, instead of the camera.

This was a very nasty problem in 2014, and I really expected it to be addressed in 2015 so that my 6 and 8 year old daughters could play this, but Ubisoft is pretty much trash at addressing problems such as this.

Now for the rest of the game. It is what you expect it to be. The game itself is fun enough and has a very good song selection. The modes and all the different things you can unlock, as well as the community features are well done.

This still gets a low review though, because for our purpose the game is not usable.

This game would be great for the sort of folks who can afford to play it in a dance hall. I have a 940 sq. ft. home and using the Playstation camera, it is often tough to get into the viewable areas, especially those on the edges, which is the only way I can figure out how to choose certain dance styles or whatever it is that is happening.

My camera is about 5'5" high. It almost seems like I would have to mount it on my ceiling and point it down on my kids at an angle from there. I might pick up some Move controllers and see if it works better with those.

I also find the navigation to be confusing. Seriously, trying to play this game with my kids makes me feel old and irrelevant--but not because of the newfangled pop music, but because I can't figure out how to get it going.

Ubisoft Dropped the Ball Regarding PS4 Child Recognition - Very Frustrating for Kids

PS4 camera tracking leaves quite a bit to be desired. I do not fault the camera as the Playroom works well, and it recognizes the user's faces without issue @ login. Obviously this was not programmed with those less than 4ft in height in mind as the tracking is very hit or miss. It is rather frustrating to simply start a dance session as it needs to identify you before it starts playing the song/dance and it frequently simply cannot detect who the "blob" is that it sees - even when moving around to try to get it to detect who you are. This should have a user override capability, but it does not. This means if it does not "see" you, there will be no song/dance! Terrible design. It does detect adults much better than children, but it sill misses adults at times as well. **The game should have a camera user set-up phase where it learns the user's height, shape and profile at various angles. I'd imagine this would GREATLY improve the tracking of the dancers as well and would take all of 2 mins to accomplish. It's too bad Ubisoft failed to create this fully utilizing the camera's capabilities.....I would think they could make improvements via software updates, but I won't hold my breath. *Bottom line, don't make a product marketed primarily to children and then use 6ft adults as your test subjects!!

My children love this game! We used it as entertainment at a slumber party and it was a hit with all 10 eight year old girls. Lots of fun for everyone. I think it is safe to say that if you have kids (or are young at heart) who enjoy the songs on this game that you will enjoy playing with it. We have found it is a great baby sitter and will entertain the kids for hours. We also bought cheap blow up instruments like guitars and saxaphones so the kids could pretend to play instruments while singing. They helps if you have trouble with kids fighting over who gets to sing next.

More fun than expected

In the early 2000's, I was pretty intensely into Dance Dance Revolution. And when this came around, I rolled my eyes at the franchise as a cheap clone. Turns out this is actually a really well done title. My only real beef has been with the "sing along" mode. You can't turn that OFF, and it keeps detecting the games own music as perfect singing, which it then gives to player one. Player one will always win because of this. Period. Very annoying design flaw.
