When Carrie recognizes a murdered city official as someone she played poker with at an underground casino, she puts her career on the line by admitting her illegal activities and volunteers to go back to the tables undercover.
Poppy Montgomery single-handedly makes this show. She is simply outstanding as the beautiful lady cop who remembers everything -- literally. Dylan Walsh, as her sidekick, is competent and the tongue-in-cheek chemistry between these one-time lovers from their former days as Syracuse cops and now of the NYC Major Crimes Unit is the comic relief any good crime show requires to keep it from becoming too heavy, but it is Montgomery as Carrie Wells who makes it truly unforgettable. Her technique of solving crimes by recalling infinitesimal details from crime and other connected scenes (although no one but Carrie suspects that they are connected) is unique and invariably fascinating. What must it be like to have a memory that actually stores everything it sees or hears? It is unimaginable and even a little frightening, but Montgomery carries this off with consistent good humor and a true serio/comedic talent. Unusual and extremely entertaining show -- well-written, directed, and filmed -- that I sincerely hope will have a long run.
For those who are more my age, pre Spanish-American War, you might remember the mystery series, Ellery Queen. There were clues for you to help you solve who the culprit was. The more you watched, the better you got. Unforgettable is followings this path. If you follow Carrie carefully at what she sees you may be able to solve the crime. Season one had a great cast of characters that interacted well. I was sad to see them go, however the new cast is on the same path of becoming very likeable.
The concept of an unlimited memory is fascinating, much like magic. I think it would be very bothersome to store all in the mind and not to expect it to leak. ;) I still like this movie because it is enjoyable to think of that kind of gift and what it could contribute. Yep, I enjoy this series and the actors involved. I watch it every time. Would recommend it.
I always enjoy shows that have a little twist to them. This show, with the concept that the detective never forgets anything, provides for all kinds of plots. And, of course, I enjoy the fact that the detectives in this show, like all good TV Detectives, never lets procedure or rules get in the way of solving the case. In my mind this show ranks right up there with Cold Case (before that show got all hung up on the detectives' personal lives), Monk, and the Mentalist (before that show got all goofed up)
I love everything about the show - almost. the dialogue is super, and Carrie's delivery of it makes the whole thing so genuine and real. Love the dynamic between Al and Carrie, but again Carrie is the one who shines. BUT I wish they'd get someone in wardrobe to bring her clothes and costumes up to her superb standards. Everyone on the team shows up in suits and ties, beautifully tailored silks and slacks, and there's Carrie - same ole black zippered jacket over and over, baggy blouse that is exactly the wrong length, over and over, and skinny jeans that just don't fit. They look like she just pulled them out of the clothes hamper. What is she - undercover or what? With such a hot show, couldn't they afford a stylist that could make the most of her beautiful assets and keep her in character at the same time. Hell, I'm a garden designer and i could dress her better. Julianne
A very clever show based on a real condition that just a handful of people in the world have. Every show leaves me with "what if......" Poppy does a great job in her role. I'm convinced she did her homework
We thought we had recorded this episode on our TV, but there had been a sporting event that ran over. We didn't get all of the show. We turned to Amazon, and was able to watch the entire episode - commercial free - and it was great. We will do the same in the future when something like this happens.
An unappreciated Sumer gem...start with a fascinating concept of people born with a perfect memory(I forgot name of condition...a condition I obviously was not born with but based on Marilu Henner)...add great chemistry between 2 appealing stars (Poppy Montgomery and Dylan Walsh) ...and top off with always interesting stories and you have the perfect recipe for great summer mind candy...that is why I gave it top rating
