In Vienna in 1683, a small contingent of cavalry stand fortified against 300,000 Ottoman soldiers. When the walls are finally breached, an epic battle of blood, steel, and gunfire is unleashed to decide the fate of the west.
Have seen this movie 6 times, it starts slow but has great cavalry battle action, the good guys win is the main point defeating the Muslim hordes that come to sack and take over Vienna which they call the golden apple, the grand prize of Islam to destroy Christianity. Little known history that a few Polish soldiers stand against thousands of Muslims when other European nations turn their backs on Vienna cutting deals with the Muslims to spare their cities, the old Polish King and his sons answer the call to help their neighbors and slaughter the Muslim army at the gates of Europe, the sub-plot is the Muslims living in the city that have befriend the Christians betray their Christian friends and slaughter them and join the Muslims at the gate, just a lesson for todays world
Not a bad film at all. It was an Italian film with English dubbed in and done well. The acting was not academy award, but the story was the best of all. It was an action film and timely for what is going on in the world today. I recommend the film and would watch it again.
I would have enjoyed the story from the perspective of the King of Poland, a much more interesting story could have been told. Kara Mustafa camped outside the walls of Vienna for two months before the invasion, the movie had such a simple rendition of the battle plans and strategy as if it all happened in a few days. Still it was worth watching
Good movie. I will now read up on the actual history of the battle see how accurate the movie was. I am familiar with the siege and have visited Austria several times. In Austria the story was explained to me several times. All I can say as a Christian and someone who enjoys Democracy Thank God Christian armies prevailed!
As a Polish Winged Hussar renactor who had ancestors who fought at Vienna, I enjoyed this movie. But since it is a foreign film the CGI is horrible. Loved to see the Hussars (Best heavy cavalry the world has ever seen) riding down the urks.
I very much liked the movie although there will be no awards given for acting or special effects. I watched it for it's historical significance, it was another example of GOD stepping in and delivering victory in the face of Islamic aggression. I have no doubt that GOD will again be needed to protect his church from the Islam and destroy it once and for all.
