I've had these for a little over a year. I mostly used them in the garage, but then started to work from home and moved them to the desk. In the garage they were nice for what I paid ($125 black friday sale) but in the house at my desk they were way to bright. This is in part due to the horn loaded tweeter. I could not listen to them for very long with out my ears getting very fatigued. I replaced them with a used set of B&W DM601 S3s I think new these sold for $500 so that is twice the MSRP of the R-15M, but I'm much more satisfied with the sound compared to the R-15m. I was slightly confused as I thought these were the "reference line" and I guess they are, they just have nicer reference lines as well. They are back in the garage and work fine for general music over bluetooth while working out or other activities in the garage.

I added some internal photos of the speakers as well.

I bought two sets of the 'Best Buy' predecessor to the R15M's - the KB-15's. On paper, they appear pretty much the same - except for a bit higher excursion into the ultrasonic region for the tweeters (24kHz vs 23 kHz) and weight (10.3lb vs 11 lb). You'd think that they would sound the same - and they almost do. I swapped out the KB-15's for the R15M's on my hobby room stereo, made up of an Onkyo C-7030 CDP and TX-8020 50Wpc stereo receiver with <.08% HD @ 50Wpc, both channels driven, and <.03% HD @ 25Wpc. I have plans for a mini home theater (5.1) in that room and wanted a fifth KB-15. I knew that I'd have to buy a pair, so I transferred one to my tabletop shortwave radio use, then prepared to buy another set on Black Friday - then I found the R15M's for $124/pr! They arrived in two days - and were left on my stereo on a local rock station at a low level for two days - my usual break-in. With all the same spec's, I didn't expect any difference between the KB-15's and the R15M's - but there it was, subtle, but there. The LF doesn't go any lower - but it seemed fuller. Horns can sometimes sound harsh - and the KB-15's were on the edge of sounding that way. The R15M's were like coming out of the darkness - rich with cymbals, violins, and piano overtones. The KB-15's are still quite good - the R15M's are slightly better. Get them while you can. The only speakers that I have that are more sensitive, ie, easier to drive, are my recent Klipsch RB-81ii's, whose purchase was initiated by my satisfaction with the earlier KB-15's (SPL 94dB with 1W/1m vs the RB-81ii's SPL of 97dB).

For a two-way bookshelf loudspeaker, these probably do live up to the title "reference." Like Grado headphones in the lower price range, they are going to reproduce what's coming from the source with pretty good fidelity. If there's a deep bass, it's heard. Same with very high-end. The thing to remember is that you need to establish your reference point. Every song, every record, CD, radio station, MP3, amplifier, turntable, CD player, computer, tape deck, pre-amp, stereo equalizer, etc., has its own sound. So, find that very favorite recording, play it on what you think are the perfect components, then see how these speakers compare. Also, make sure your room is the perfect room. :) I like these for their full-range richness. Are there even better speakers? Sure. Good luck on your quest for perfection. :) These do reproduce the source sound faithfully.

These speakers are great. Very nice crisp highs that don't bother the ear drum at all. I use these as surround speakers in a 7.2 setup. I would not use these as front speakers unless your using them as true monitor speakers. They provide a nice punch as well for their size. I have them crossed over at 80hz and they do not distort at all even when im playing very loudly which i do often. Imaging is also very good ina surround setup not sure how much the speaker plays a roll in that but i can hear everything and where its coming from especially usefull when gaming online.

I've had these speakers for about 7-8 months now. I purchased them with a subwoofer. I always thought the sound was OK but nothing amazing. Until today when I turned off the subwoofer! And Wow! The sound is so much cleaner and amazing! For music listening purchase these without a sub. They produce more than enough bass on their own. Music is where you appreciate these the most. Movies, most sound comes out from center channel. Also for the Black Friday price ($125) these are unbeatable. At full price there are other options such as ELAC speakers !

I'm running these with an onkyo receiver the 636.. I suggest keeping your eyes open for the 646 on sale.

These speakers have taken a hard hit from some reviewers; to the point where I felt hesitant to buy at first. But, I did buy them at Best Buy for the sale price of $125 a pair. I bought 2 pair for my 7.1 system. I figure I could always return them if I wasn’t happy. That was 3 days ago and I still have them with no intentions of returning.

I’m a musician with years of experience in a recording studio and I’ve adapted a pretty good ear, and my ears say these R-15M’s sound very nice… especially with my Klipsch R-26F floor standing, and R-25C center speakers. The system sounds impressive and I'm a picky SOB. I hear a nice balanced blend of frequency dimension in the soundstage. I am happier than I expected and these speakers added a nice finishing touch to my system.

I don’t think I would have paid the full price of $250 a pair, but for the sale price of $125 you’ll play hell trying to find a better sounding bookshelf speaker. Sure, you can get better sounding bookshelf speakers, but you're going to pay for it. I'm sure I'l be happy with these for some time.
