Worked like a charm. I had amazon gift cards but I wanted to buy a Nintendo Switch from my local gamestop. I used my amazon cards to buy three of these gift cards and received my email about 6 minutes later. The link in the emails sent me to a gamestop page with information on the gift card and a nifty button to same the gift card to my android pay account. I saved all three cards to my android pay account and used them about an hour later a the gamestop down the street with no problems at all. I will definitely be doing this again with any amazon gift cards I get for christmas.
If you're trying to take advantage of 6 months no interest/5% back with the the Amazon card, I recommend planning ahead a couple of days and ordering the physical gift cards. These e-mails aren't quite reliable enough.
My experience:
- Purchased four $100 gift cards - Received confirmation from Amazon in about 5 minutes - Received the gift cards about 45 minutes later- sweet! - Clicked "Get Gift Card" in the first e-mail, a page opened, but nothing loaded - Tried the remaining three emails, those links didn't work either - Contacted customer service via phone, spoke with a lady that had a hard time even taking my order # (bad sign), let alone addressing the issue; eventually asked to be transferred - A couple more transfers/calls and still little to no help - Resent the cards to myself (your account > your orders > resend e-mail) - Two hours later the status still says "scheduled" - Attempted to chat with Juan, we were disconnected a couple of times, but he said he'd need to forward to the gift card department and it could take 1-2 days to hear back... to which I replied, "That's unacceptable. Cancel the order..." - We were disconnected again, then Gurpreet connected - I explained that I expected to be able to use the gift cards nearly immediately, but since that didn't appear to be an option I wanted to cancel the order - After about ten minutes, he came back and wasn't able to help... he, too, need to contact the gift card department and it'd be about 24-48 before the order would be canceled.
UPDATE:
Working cards finally arrived about 10 hours after I received confirmation of my order. I visited Gamestop's site and verified the Card #s + PINs- all worked and the balances were correct.
UPDATE 2:
Well, they finally got around to cancelling the cards now that they worked. This is the most incompetent customer service I've have ever experienced.
UPDATE 3:
Purchased the cards again while I wait for my balance to be restored. Worked flawlessly this time. Would be 5 stars if not for the half day of getting the run around.
I purchase gift cards quite often, and recently gift card orders here at Amazon have taken quite a long time to process. Originally they used to take 5 minutes or so to process, but now each one needs to be manually verified by some team which takes a minimum of 2 hours.
Furthermore, note that you have a risk of getting locked out of your account by purchasing a gift card from Amazon. Without even contacting you prior, they will lock your account if they feel like its fraud even the slightest bit. This means you wont be able to get back into your account for 5 hours minimum, so plan for this. It doesn't matter if you are sending it to yourself or to another person, I've tried both and have been locked out of my account both ways. You have been warned.
Once you receive the gift card, its usually good to go, but thats the issue - Is getting the gift card. Any slower, and you might as well just purchase the physical card through the mail.
Will never buy again. It was a birthday gift and my daughter was never able to use it because Game Stop said it was a problem with their computer system and never would accept it even with the Amazon receipt.
I needed game time for ESO. So... I got an Amazon GC from Jiff which I used to buy a GameStop GC which I used to buy an Elder Scrolls Online Tamriel Unlimited 60 Day Subscription. Great deal, only issue was that I had to manually enter the code because copy/paste caused an error on the GameStop website. Not Amazon's fault.
