I was a long time Kingston memory fan and have used their RDRAM to SDRAM. But lately I have went with Corsair for DDR memory as it went well with my previous system.

My new system build is:
ASUS Z97-A,
i7 4970K
Hyper EVO 212
GTX 970

I went with Vengeance Pro series DDR3 1866 Red high profile DIMMs, what I noticed was the XMP default profile is good for 1866 but it isn't good for 1600 MHZ as the next default goes to 1333 MHZ on that Memory. This worried me as I don't like to set something that isn't tested by factory defaults. I also noticed the corsair memory release date was somewhere in 2013 which is old in 2015 standards. Another reason I wanted new memory is to find the best low profile model as I have Hyper EVO 212 cooler which interferes with high profile memory in case you expand to 4 DIMMs.

So my search began with Corsair, Crucial and Kingston and finally found this gem hidden deep inside the default memories comes on Amazon.

Pros:

1) Release date Fall 2014 so new
2) Latency on 1866 MHZ is near perfect 9-10-10
3) My interest was in 1600 MHZ 9-9-9-27 Perfect! - In my opinion no matter what people say about higher frequency memories this 1600 MHZ latency is the best for i7-4790K series processor. Trust me I did my extensive research.
4) Perfect balanced RAM for Adobe CC suites and Games
5) XMP profile was easy to switch in Z97-A bios
6) Low profile - perfect to add 4 DIMMs with Noctua or Hyper EVO 212 coolers
7) Bonus brilliant Red color heatsink
8) $20 cheaper than Corsair Vengeance Pro - $111

Cons:

Just one minor 1866 latency could have been 9-10-9-27 like Corsair Vengeance Pro but honestly with 1866MHZ for i7-4970K you won't notice any difference in real life.

I bought this memory for a recent computer build where I wanted to maintain a red/black theme, but I also wanted a fairly low profile, and decent speed. I finally decided on this set of 32GB 1866MHz HyperX Savage.

It looks amazing on my motherboard, doesn't get too hot, and works like a champ, and does it all with a nice low profile giving me plenty of room.

Absolutely no complaints here.

(Review of Kingston HyperX Savage 16GB Kit (2x8GB) 1866MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM XMP (HX318C9SRK2/16))

Not working at 1866 in my motherboard. used XMP #1 (1866 timing of 9-10-11-1.5v) and system will not boot. Even using profile #2 for the lower speed caused issues. Manually setting the timings and/or voltage would get these sticks running at 1600 but not 1866 (yes i tried setting it manually even though it was the exact same settings auto would show as used due to having a mobo/ram stick combo that i found would ONLY work if it was set manually).

I had no issue with my old G.skill Ripwjaws X (2x4GB) other than having to set the bios to use the XMP as it wanted to default to 1600 (same as these sticks other than the Ripjaws would work fine using the XMP or manually setting timing)

Motherboard does not specifically list the HyperX Savage as being compatible but it meets the specs to support this memory and the Ripjaws X worked fine and it also is not specifically listed as compatible. Will likely return and get something else after i investigate and check into if swapping them into different slots will get them functioning at the correct speed.
Mother board is a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 pcb rev. 4..0 with the F2 Bios revision (F3 is newer but only updates "CPU AGESA code" so have not bothered/risked flashing since it is not needed)

This is simply the best memory I've bought in years.
I have used other HyperX products, Patriot Ram, Crucial, Corsair and Mushkin.
This is some awesome stuff. It not only works flawlessly (true plug n play) but it is well designed and looks fantastic in a case.

I was deciding between this and the Corsair Vengeance Pro. I went with the Savage because the heatsink is nicer and the tall heatsink of the Vengeance Pro will interfere with my 212 evo cooler. Reliability-wise, DDR3 technology is pretty mature so there is little difference between the major vendors.

The Savage is a better binned part than the Kingston HyperX Fury, being CL9 as compared to CL10 for 1866 Mhz. Tighter timings will only make a negligible practical difference. The good thing about a better binned part is that I was able to under-volt it. The Savage was Prime 95 stable (24 hours torture test) running at 1600 Mhz 9-9-9-24 timings at 1.35 volts. Running at a lower voltage means a longer life for the RAM and less chance of failure.

Edit: 14 Sep 2015 - on a whim, I decided to see how high this RAM can overclock. Managed 2400 MHz at CL 11 with 1.545V (25 hours Prime 95 stress test). Amazing! This looks like the limit as I could not hit 2666 MHz even with 1.65V.

There's an old saying going around that goes something like, "Ram is, ram is, ram".

That being said this ram does everything as expected. They perform all functions flawlessly. They are well built and the heat sinks are quality.

I don't have any cons for them as they are running as they should.
